Ready to make a dam difference in New Cumberland?

American Rivers is conducting a feasibility study exploring the possible removal of the low head dam on Yellow Breeches Creek near Borough Park. As part of that process, they're forming a Community Advisory Team (CAT) and they're looking for 10 New Cumberland residents to participate.

The dam isn't owned by the borough, but the creek runs through our community. The CAT is how local voices stay at the center of this study, surfacing concerns, identifying opportunities, and keeping neighbors informed over the roughly 18-month process.

New Cumberland Borough residents — we need your input.

The borough is preparing for our next trash and recycling collection contract, and we want to hear from you before we finalize bid specifications. This short survey (under 2 minutes) asks about your collection needs for size, frequency, and priorities.

Your responses will directly shape what we ask haulers to bid on, which affects the service you get and what it costs.

Take the survey here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdf55V_UaMW81w587ozuD5kyL2GpUNYPxhv8fcfDZV_w1VBnw/viewform

I recently met with a New Cumberland resident who would like to start a Strong Towns Local Conversation group here in the borough.

These are informal, community-led groups to connect neighbors who care about their town and want to make it even better. A space to talk about what’s working, what could improve, and how to actually do something about it together.

There are over 290 of these groups across the country. I’d love to see one take root here.

Check out strongtowns.org/local to learn more, and send me a message if you’d like to get connected.

Local Conversations connect nearby, like-minded advocates to put Strong Towns ideas into action where you live. Find a group near you.

Thinking about running for local office someday? The application deadline for Run For Something's Future Candidates Cohort is just a few days away — February 16th.

It's a free, 4-week virtual program for people under 40 who want to prepare thoughtfully before launching a campaign. You'll work on clarifying your values, building a public voice, and mapping out a realistic plan for a future run.

If you've been thinking about 2027, 2028, or beyond, this is a great first step.

Future Candidates Cohort Cohort Outcomes+ By the end of the program, you’ll have: Stronger grounding in your values and leadership “why”: Reflect on your lived experience, clarify what motivates you to lead, and articulate the values that will guide your future run. The beginnings of a public ...

Damn the dam? Join us at this Wednesday’s Monthly Meeting - New Cumberland Borough Council to learn about a study that will look at the feasibility, implications, and benefits of removing the low head dam on the Yellow Breeches at Borough Park.

We’ll also be discussing appointments to the Library Board, Planning Commission, and Zoning Hearing Board.

And for all the trash talkers, we’ll talk about a “request for information” from waste collection vendors to inform our future waste collection contract in an effort to get competitively priced and multiple bids.

Find us Wednesday, January 14 at 7pm at borough chambers at 1120 Market Street.
