I woke up this morning to so many messages of support after yesterday’s election result. Regardless of outcome, I am incredibly proud of putting myself out there, the campaign that I ran and the community that was built in the process. There are so many people to thank for joining me on this journey:
- Pete and Jacky, thank you for being exemplary co-candidates and mentors for the next generation of HCS-minded volunteers. I feel very fortunate to have had my first run with two incredibly kind and welcoming people.
- My official committee Meredith and Victoria. Thank you for stepping up to help me, answer questions, deliver signs, hold signs, and run errands when I was stretched thin. You are the best.
- My might-as-well-be committee Erin, Greg, Rachel, Ming, and Libby for answering my thousands of questions about policy, the state of public education, being on Hanover committees, and for helping me workshop my stream of consciousness into workable ideas for HPS. Your experience and guidance is an invaluable resource.
- The campaign kids who came to my events, held signs, ate donuts, and let me pick their brains about what is and isn’t working at HPS from their perspective. The future is bright with this generation on deck. Also, according to them there is work to do about homework load, the condition of the spinner on the Center playground, and Middle School start time.
- My family and friends who have stepped up so much to help me navigate schedule changes, pick-ups, drop offs, and general child care during the times I needed to focus on campaign activities.
- And lastly, but mostly, thank you to Wilder, for allowing me to divide my attention one more way the last few months to take this campaign head on. This journey was at its core about you, and fighting for you to be able to blaze your own trail through the world with every tool in your belt.
Hanover, we are lucky to be so well served by our elected and appointed volunteers, and I encourage anyone who is interested in being part of positive change for our town to run or volunteer for a seat in the future. Every single one of us has something we can offer, be it talent, expertise, or a few hours of our time each week, so let’s put down the keyboards, and roll up our sleeves. We are better together, and together we are one Hanover.
