🚨 THE WASHINGTON COUNTY NAACP ASKS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR ANSWERS🚨

The Commissioners banned public comments so we took the fight to their inboxes today.

We are fighting the unbid, sole-source water/sewer contract slated for GDMS, LLC on this Thursday’s agenda.

📄 See the official agenda packet for yourself here:https://www.washco-md.net/wp-content/uploads/05212026-Open-Agenda-PACKET.pdf

Here is the backroom deal you need to know about:

🔴 This contract goes to a firm run by former County Administrator Greg Murray. Mr. Murray is the CEO for Washington Realty Management, an entity linked to JG Business Link International LLC on a project that desperately needs public water and sewer to be financially viable. A private developer should never control public infrastructure planning.

🔴 While the immediate utility issues appear centered around Cascade, this contract gives this one insider broad authority over the entire county!

🔴 The proposed ICE detention center warehouse is currently halted over severe sewage and wastewater violations from the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). We believe this county-wide study is possibly engineered as a smokescreen to hand-pick an insider who will override state environmental orders and force the detention center forward.

WE NEED YOU TO TAKE ACTION TODAY!

Write a personalized email to the Commissioners before Thursday’s vote. We aren’t giving you a template because your words carry more weight.

Demand to know why they are rushing an unbid contract, why they are ignoring a textbook conflict of interest, and what else they are hiding.

COMMISSIONER EMAILS ARE LISTED IN THE COMMENTS BELOW. COPY, WRITE, AND SHARE!

Today, we stood before the Washington County Commissioners to speak on behalf of the NAACP regarding the proposed 911 fee increase.

We came prepared with data showing how our 911 system is facing a $3.7 million shortfall; a crisis being worsened by the County’s support for the DHS/ICE facility.

Despite efforts to remain strictly on the topic of fiscal impact and public safety, the BOCC interrupted, silenced, and ultimately removed and issued a trespass notice.

Most disturbingly, 3, white constituents were allowed to speak broadly on the topic without interruption or removal.

This is a textbook case of disparate treatment and an attempt to intimidate the leadership of the NAACP. The Commissioners may have removed the NAACP from the room, but they cannot remove the facts from the record.

Our Statement for the Record, is posted, please note that all comments in relation to the 911 fee increase, public safety, and fiscal responsibility are bolded. You can see that the comments are germane to the public hearing agenda item.

We will not be intimidated. We will continue to demand transparency, ask questions, and demand accountability on the fiscal cost of this facility to the taxpayers of Washington County.

📢 CALL TO ACTION 📢

The Washington County NAACP is taking a stand. We have officially sent a letter of opposition to Anovaeon LLC, the company currently hiring staff to run a mass ICE detention processing center in Williamsport.

The Reality: DHS is trying to turn a commercial warehouse, designed for packages, not people, into a facility for 1,500 individuals.

Why we are fighting this:
• This building has only 4 toilets for 1,500 people. It is estimated to produce 187,000 gallons of sewage daily; 4x what the local pipes can handle.
• DHS bypassed environmental laws, threatening our Potomac River watershed and local air quality.
• Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown is SUING to stop this project because it is unlawful and secretive.

📢 WE NEED YOU!

Don’t let a “humanitarian” label hide an inhumane project. We need every resident to flood Anovaeon with the message that Washington County says NO.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
1. EMAIL THEM: Copy the letter in the comments below and send it to [email protected] and [email protected].

2. CALL THEM: (571) 249-4074. Tell them: “I am a resident and I oppose the Williamsport Warehouse project. It is uninhabitable and unlawful.”

3. SPREAD THE WORD: If you see their job ads on LinkedIn or Indeed, share the facts about the site conditions.

What to say in your message:
✅ “The building is physically unfit for habitation.”
✅ “4 toilets for 1,500 people is a public health hazard.”
✅ “I stand with the Maryland AG and the Washington County NAACP in opposing this project.”
