🚗 Lauren began delivering through United Way in 2018 and has continued that commitment with her husband, delivering once a month.

“I see firsthand how donations are making a difference,” said Lauren. “There are many people in Greenville who truly depend on the services Meals on Wheels provides, and it is essential that the organization receives the support needed to continue meeting those needs.”

Today marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11. In honor of the lives lost and the enduring spirit of service that emerged from that day, one of our longtime supporters, MetLife, is volunteering with us today.

“Volunteering with Meals on Wheels reflects our commitment to serving others with purpose,” said Joseph Wallace II, Director, GTO Business Controls Innovation & Enablement – Risk. "We believe that acts of service, no matter how small, are a meaningful way to remember those impacted by 9/11 and to carry forward the values of compassion, resilience, and unity."

In addition to the meals packed today, another group from MetLife volunteered on Wednesday, bringing their total impact to nearly 2,500 meals provided this week to homebound neighbors and other community members in need.

"By packing meals for individuals facing food insecurity, our team is turning remembrance into action and making a positive difference in the lives of others," said Joseph. "The MetLife Greenville office has a decades long history of supporting the Meals on Wheels Greenville organization, and we are proud to continue supporting the great work their organization does for our community!"

We want to make sure our clients are prepared for the unexpected. Thanks to the generous support of the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation’s Nourishing Our Neighbors grant, we distributed more than 1,180 emergency meal kits to clients this week.

These shelf-stable kits provide a vital safety net when severe weather or other emergencies disrupt regularly scheduled meal deliveries, helping ensure our clients have food on hand when they need it most.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Thank you for helping nourish our Greenville County neighbors when they need it most!

🐶 Happy National Dog Day! If you subscribe to GVLtoday, you may have spotted one of our favorite volunteer duos in your inbox this morning: Nate and his delivery buddy, Benny!

Some volunteer partners walk on two legs, and some ride along on four. Nate and Benny have been delivering together since 2023, and while Benny stays safely inside the car, he still delivers plenty of smiles from the window.

“Benny loves to make people happy,” says Nate. “One of our clients waits at her door every week, always ready with a smile and wave for Benny.” Nate and Benny are a perfect reminder that every delivery is about more than a meal—it’s about the connection made along the way.
