The Guilford County Continuum of Care (Guilford CoC) is the planning body in Guilford County that coordinates the community’s policies, strategies, and activities toward ending homelessness. The heart of the Guilford County Continuum of Care is its membership. Membership in the CoC is open to any organization or individual interested in supporting the community-wide commitment to prevent and end homelessness in Guilford County. This commitment is defined by the willingness to assist and impact the lives of people experiencing homelessness, as well as to prevent and end the socially important condition of homelessness. The Guilford County CoC includes all parts of Guilford County, North Carolina.

The City’s Behavioral Health Response Team (BHRT) has launched the Clinician Alternative Response (CAR). CAR enables two BHRT crisis counselors to respond to certain 911 calls for service in lieu of law enforcement.

Behavioral Health Supervisor Dewey Mullis of the City's Community Safety Department shared the news as part of a BHRT Lunch and Learn event today at the Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion.

BHRT's original co-response model involves a team of behavioral health clinicians and specially trained police officers who respond to 911 calls that appear to be related to mental health or substance use.

An extension of BHRT, CAR diverts certain emergency calls from traditional law enforcement to a response by BHRT crisis counselors. This allows the Greensboro Police Department to focus resources on criminal matters and higher-risk crises.

With the launch of our Housing First Plus initiative and the ongoing outreach efforts of our GSO HOME team, there is an increased need for donations.

Here is a video of how to put together a simple “Welcome Home” basket for clients who will be transitioning out of homelessness and into stable housing. These baskets may seem small, but they can bring comfort, dignity, and encouragement during a huge life transition.

If you’ve ever wanted to help but didn’t know where to start, this is an easy and meaningful way to support someone rebuilding their life.

We said goodbye to our GSO HOME intern Reggie… and then he said, “Actually, I’ll be back.”

Reggie will respawn like a video game character with the Community Safety Department in the Fall as an intern with our Behavioral Health Response Team.

At this point, we’re just going to give him his own parking spot and office snacks.
