What a great event! I was going to post a pathetic video, but this has everything! This is the core of what people talk about when they talk about preserving a “hometown feeling.” Congratulations to our chamber for an event well executed, and much thanks to the vendors and sponsors who provided the free food and treats, and to everyone who helped promote it!

Read the POST. Believe it or not I have it also heard rumors of people who would like to return the fire department to a volunteer status. That has to be one of the most ridiculously preposterous things that I’ve ever heard. Why don’t we just turn the clock back to 1980?
We have a phenomenal group of firefighters and we have equipment on order to supply them with the tools they need in the event that the worst happens to you and your family Can you further imagine the effect this would have on homeowner insurance rates in the city?
Over my dead body. That’s all.

Hundreds of boxes of cereal were donated to the Summer Cereal Drive by local businesses and my brother David even cruised through the parking lot to make his contribution! Thank you to those who are working to make a difference in Greenbrier!

Greenbrier or not?
Pulse of Conway, a monthly publication of the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce, lists the top selling prices of residential properties in Faulkner County from the previous month, and Greenbrier homes frequently make the list...but to assuage the anxiety of Conway denizens who may suffer anxiety at little ol Greenbrier upstaging their bigger brother in pricy homes, we will have to concede that those homes are only "Greenbrier homes" by virtue of their mailing address.
My point? They should be. Perhaps not all of them, but our city limits footprint is very small and needs to be expanded. Previous discussions have included extending as far north as Colt's Quick Draw to as far south as Kaney Ridge/Arkavalley and to the east and west to a more modest degree. There are numerous benefits to living inside the city limits for homeowners.
It is well past time that this discussion enters the public square.
What are your thoughts?

Greenbrier is the 8th fastest growing city in Arkansas according to the US Census Bureau. Also only one of three that are outside of NWA. Growth creates opportunities, but not without challenges. Pick your leadership wisely.

The photo with Cardin S. popped up on “memories.” Do you remember Brierfest?
If elected mayor, we WILL revive Brierfest, perhaps with a different name, but the same concept. Adding substantially more parking in Matthews Park, will need to come first, but that will be a priority on the city’s agenda.
I loved the fishing derby we had in the park this past spring break, and I hope our organizer and volunteers/donors will help keep that going. A legitimate Independence Day celebration? Absolutely!
When people talk about keeping our sense of community, I think these types of events are exactly what creates and contributes to that feeling.
What does it for you?

Pvt Willie O Barnes was my uncle on Momma’s side. He was killed in action in the Pacific theater on January 17, 1944. From what I can tell, he was not engaged in a notable battle. In other words, something that you would not have read in a history book, but rather a minor skirmish as they cleaned the enemy out of the islands they had just won.
“Uncle Oscar” was a U.S. Army soldier with the 112th Cavalry Regiment from California, and one of two of my Mom’s brothers. He is interred in the Manila American Cemetary in the Philippines. I know this because of a little research. I also learned that he was posthumously awarded The Purple Heart, The American Campaign Medal, and The WWII Victory Medal.

I think it’s ok if we enjoy trips to the zoo, the parks and lakes, and even chores around the house. Freedom from tyranny and the preservation of our lifestyle is why these men died. Offer them a few minutes of respect, then go about your activities.
