It's official! I was sworn in at Green Bay City Hall. I appreciate all the support whether it was with your vote, a yard sign*, or spreading a good word. I do not take for granted the opportunity to have a voice and a vote at the board table.

I am proud to have the endorsement of the Greater Green Bay Labor Council, AFL-CIO. As the daughter of an Ironworker (Local 8, Milwaukee) I was raised with a strong work ethic, unwavering principles. and respect for the rights of workers.

As a school board member, I will continue to support policy to recruit and retain the best talent in the Green Bay School District. Students benefit the most when the employees in their schools are engaged, appreciated, and treated fairly.

A post of love for my mom today. I recognize parental involvement is critical to the success of public schools. I remember going home in 4th grade excited that we had a whole unit on Wisconsin "Indians". I was filled with pride to learn more about the history of my mom's tribe. Our tribe.

As the unit progressed, I didn't feel pride, but rather confusion and anger. What we were learning about the "Indians" in that unit was not only historically inaccurate, but offensive. I showed my mom one passage in the book about how the "dirty Indians" would peek in windows to watch the settler women and children undress. My mom said, "Do you think anyone was clean back then?" We laughed.

As a mom now, I know she made light for my benefit, but she was ready to handle business at the school the next day. The books were subsequently removed from the classroom and the curriculum. She was one of many parents who worked to ensure accurate United States history is taught in schools. Although I was mortified as a 4th grader that she was creating waves, I am now filled with pride for the "good trouble" she created, who she was, and who she taught me to be.

A quality education related to our environment is one that provides access to information, prompts action, and develops committed citizens who recognize their role as caretakers of the land.

I am honored to have the endorsement of the Green Bay Education Association. This professional organization is comprised of the teachers and paraprofessionals who work with our children every day. Their commitment to the educators, the community, and most importantly, the students, is fundamental to ensuring a quality public education for all.

This is Oliver.
Oliver is an old, sweet lab that has a hard time getting around. He was completely quiet and sleeping until I started to deliver my epic introduction during the virtual League of Women Voters candidate forum! Oliver will still get extra treats today.

I appreciate the recommendation. Thank you to Green Bay Advocates 4 Public Education! They made the effort to get to know the candidates by sending us an in-depth questionnaire and scheduling interviews to follow. Public education is stronger because of community groups like this! ♥️🤍💙

GB Advocates recommends Laura Laitinen-Warren for GBAPS School Board:
*It is important to understand why people are leaving GBAPS. Is it family related, logistical or is it something the district is doing? Are there exit interviews with families? We need to have the facts, gather the data, talk to parents, and then do what is necessary to keep families in the district.
*As a school board member I will continue to listen, learn and reach out to the under-represented communities. I will use my network to further build relationships and welcome new voices to GBAPS. I will support policy that creates a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture within our district where all children and their families belong and they know they belong.
*I will support efforts to improve the diversity of the employees of the district to reflect the students we serve. I would also like to see more funding for mental health resources and campaigns to end the stigma often associated with mental illness.
