It was an inspiring morning at the Lake County Democratic Women’s monthly meeting, where we heard directly from local leaders about what it really takes to step up and serve.

Thank you to Kara Macdonald (Village Trustee, Libertyville), Nina Austin (Community High School District 128 School Board), Carmecia Hawthorn (Foss Park Commissioner), and Anne Richmond (Round Lake Area Public Library Trustee) for sharing your experiences running for office, the realities of public service, and how community support—especially from Lake County Democratic Women—can make all the difference.

From navigating campaigns to making an impact in their roles today, their stories were a powerful reminder that local leadership matters—and it starts with people willing to get involved.

Thinking about running or getting more engaged? This is your sign!

A special shoutout and congratulations to our very own LCDW President, Senator Mary Edly Allen, for taking first place in her age category, what an amazing achievement!

Tonight's the Night! (4/29). This event will highlight the stellar work of A Safe Place at 6:30 pm in the beautiful Byron Colby Barn (Jones Point Rd. and Rt. 45 in Grayslake). All are welcome!

A Safe Place has seen a 635% increase in calls to their help line and a 200% surge in demand for emergency shelter.

Consequently, more than 100 Lake County residents seek shelter every week. Many—including families with children—are unfortunately turned away.

To address this issue, A Safe Place is focused on financing a new, state-of-the-art emergency shelter and campus located in Grayslake.

Find out much more tonight. Tell your friends, neighbors and family.

The need for domestic violence services in our community is critical. Your support allows us to offer survivors and their families secure shelter, therapy services, and valuable referral assistance for a violence-free life. Our programs and services are provided at no cost to the families we assist.
