🏡 Driving into Smethport, Pennsylvania today.

This is one of those towns where it pays to slow down and look around.

Known for its beautiful Victorian architecture and ties to Pennsylvania's lumber history, Smethport is filled with reminders of a time when the lumber industry helped shape communities across northern Pennsylvania.

It's the kind of place where history isn't confined to a museum—it's right there lining the streets.

🚜 I was driving by an Amish farm recently and it reminded me that this property will soon be bustling with activity during the annual Amish school benefit auction hosted by Pepper's Auction Service of LeRoy.

📅 **June 27 at 9:00 AM**
📍 **891 Sunset Road, Canton, PA**

From what I've heard, there will be food, ice cream, quilts, furniture, and plenty of other items up for auction.

I might have to stop by and check it out.

Although I'll admit... auctions make me nervous.

Auctioneers talk so fast that I'm always afraid to scratch my nose, wave at a friend, or swat a fly and accidentally buy a rocking chair, a quilt, or maybe even a goat.

But in all seriousness, events like this are a great example of a community coming together to support a good cause while enjoying good food, fellowship, and some friendly bidding.

Have you ever been to an Amish auction?

And more importantly... can you actually understand what the auctioneer is saying?

Driving by New Life Church in Canton brought back some memories.

Many years ago, I attended church here, back when Arlen Landis and Glen Landis were part of the leadership.

I’m not sure who’s there now or if they still do the same kinds of activities, but when I went, it was a great place to worship and a place where people came together through fellowship, activities, and community.

It’s funny how certain buildings can remind you of entire chapters of your life.

Was there a church, youth group, or community gathering place that played an important role in your life?

🌲 Every place has a story, and Sunfish Pond holds a lot of memories for me.

When I was growing up, we'd come up here with family all the time. My parents, Aunt Marsha and Uncle Bill, my cousins Trisha and Danielle, and my sister Kelly would all gather here for summer afternoons on the mountain.

And believe it or not...

We used to swim in this pond.

Maybe it was more swimming-friendly back then, or maybe we just didn't know any better. Either way, I probably wouldn't be jumping in today.

We'd also have family picnics here. Back then there were actually two pavilions by the pond. Those original structures are gone now, but there's still a pavilion and several picnic tables where visitors can relax and enjoy the scenery.

It's amazing how places can change over the years while the memories stay exactly the same.

🧙‍♂️ We recently stopped in Chittenango, New York during Oz-Stravaganza weekend.

For those who don't know, Chittenango is the birthplace of **L. Frank Baum**, the author of *The Wonderful Wizard of Oz*.

We arrived a little later than planned. In fact, Marissa Bode, who played Nessarose in the movie *Wicked*, was appearing at the high school. We thought about stopping in, but we got to town around 6:40 and her appearance had started at 6:30.

Even so, we enjoyed exploring the community and learning more about the hometown of the man who created Oz.

It's amazing to think that Dorothy, the Yellow Brick Road, the Emerald City, and so many beloved characters all started with the imagination of a boy from this small New York town.

Have you ever visited Chittenango?

And who's your favorite character from *The Wizard of Oz*?

🏮 Did you know Wellsboro was voted one of the most enchanting small towns in the Northeast by USA Today readers?

With its historic downtown, iconic gas lights, beautiful architecture, festivals, and location near the Pennsylvania Wilds, it's easy to understand why so many people fall in love with this Tioga County community.

Wellsboro is one of those places that seems to slow life down just a little. Whether you're shopping downtown, exploring the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, attending a festival, or simply taking a walk down Main Street, there's a charm here that's hard to find elsewhere.

If someone was visiting Pennsylvania for the first time, would Wellsboro make your list of must-see towns?

🏞️ One of the most fascinating places I've visited in Pennsylvania is the Austin Dam in Potter County.

Built in 1911 and destroyed less than a year later, the dam's collapse sent a massive wall of water through the town of Austin, creating one of the deadliest disasters in Pennsylvania history.

More than a century later, the remains are still here.

Walking among the enormous concrete ruins gives you a real appreciation for the power of nature and the scale of the tragedy that occurred here.

It's one thing to read about history.

It's another thing to stand where it happened.

Have you ever visited the Austin Dam?

Or what's a historic site that left a lasting impression on you?

🪵 This was our second visit to the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum in Potter County.

The first time we stopped by, it was late in the season and many of the outdoor exhibits and historic buildings had already been closed for the year.

This time, we were able to experience much more of the museum and get a better appreciation for Pennsylvania's rich lumber history.

At one time, the forests of northern Pennsylvania fueled one of the largest lumber industries in the country, and this museum does a fantastic job preserving those stories.

Sometimes revisiting a place is worth it. A different season, different exhibits, or simply seeing things with fresh eyes can completely change the experience.

What's a place you've visited more than once that was even better the second time around?

🎉 IT'S FINALLY HERE! 🎉

This Wednesday at **Noon**, we'll be launching our brand-new **Northeast Pennsylvania Adventure Playing Cards** during a special pop-up event at **Milky Way Farms** between Canton and Troy.

These aren't just playing cards.

Every card features a QR code that unlocks:
✅ Adventure itineraries
✅ Trivia challenges
✅ Cryptic puzzles and secret messages
✅ Point-earning activities you can do at home or on location
✅ Rewards, prizes, hidden coin clues, and more

And because we believe adventures should be rewarding...

**Anyone who purchases a deck while we're at Milky Way Farms during the launch event will receive 1,000 bonus points and one of our retired collectible coins from a previous year's hunt.**

Once we leave, that bonus offer is gone.

These cards are printed right here in the USA and feature locations throughout Northeast Pennsylvania. If this launch is successful, we'd love to expand into other regions of Pennsylvania as well.

We'll also have monthly prizes, coin hunts, special rewards, and later this summer we'll be giving away a **$500 gas gift card!**

Whether you're planning to buy a deck or not, we'd love for you to stop by, say hello, and support Milky Way Farms for helping make this project possible.

Adventure starts Wednesday at Noon.
