Welcome to The Hayes Foundation
The Hayes Foundation: Hedge of Protection is a foundation created in loving memory of Hayes Morgheim, who was tragically murdered in a domestic violence homicide by
a friend's husband. In the wake of this devastating loss, we are choosing to transform pain into purpose by launching a mission that Hayes would have stood proudly behind.

🐾 Our Mission
The Hayes Foundation exists to provide critical support for survivors of domestic violence who have pets or service animals. We believe no one should have to choose between their safety and the safety of a beloved animal companion. Our foundation helps fund:
• Emergency boarding for pets
• Transportation for pets and service animals fleeing abuse
• Veterinary care during transitions
• Pet deposits or fees required for pet-friendly housing or shelters
• Basic supplies for survivors and their pets (food, leashes, crates, etc.)

💔 Why This Matters
• 71% of pet-owning survivors say their abuser threatened, harmed, or killed their pet.
• Nearly 50% delay leaving abuse because they can’t bring their pet.
• Many shelters do not accept pets, leaving survivors with impossible choices. No one should be forced to stay in danger because they love and want to protect their animal. We're here to change that.

🌿 The Name: The Hayes Foundation: Hedge of Protection
The name Hayes is derived from the Old English word 'hæg,' which means 'enclosure' or 'hedged area.' In a biblical context, this symbolism represents being protected and sheltered within the boundaries of God's divine presence. Furthermore, the significance of the name Hayes in biblical prophecy can be seen in Isaiah 32:2, which states, 'Each will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.' This verse highlights the idea that those bearing the name Hayes have the potential to bring comfort, protection, and solace to others in times of trouble, just as God does. The name “Hedge of Protection” symbolizes a safe boundary—both physical and emotional—between survivors and harm. It's a tribute to Hayes’ heart for safety, justice, and compassion for the vulnerable. Through this foundation, we seek to build those hedges around others in danger—especially the voiceless animals who provide comfort, protection, and unconditional love.

🐶 Hayes’ Legacy
Hayes left behind a cherished dog who was deeply bonded with him. The grief this animal has carried is a reminder of how real the trauma of violence is—not just for humans, but for animals, too. Our goal is to carry Hayes’ legacy forward by being a voice for both survivors and their pets.
