One of the things I'm most passionate about right now is ensuring young families in Texas can truly thrive, putting housing among the top of our concerns as Hood County Young Republicans. It's heartbreaking to see the American Dream slipping away, with the average first-time homebuyer now hitting 40 years old nationally, and Texas facing a dire shortage of over 300,000 homes that's driving prices through the roof and affordability to its lowest since 1985.
This is a true crises for young Texans, trapping them in endless renting, delaying marriages and kids, and forcing nearly half of 18-29-year-olds to live with their parents, the highest rate since the Great Depression. It undermines the family stability we cherish as conservatives, and we can't stand by while it erodes our communities.
We must make our young families a priority. We will soon be pushing local reforms in Granbury and Hood County, as well as attempting to raise awareness at the state level. We've also penned a resolution to safeguard young families by tackling one of these barriers head on, distinguishing true capitalism from cronyism. We're advancing it from precinct to county, with big plans to take it statewide for lasting impact.
Young families deserve better, and we're committed to delivering it.
