Devil's Standtable @ Shawnee National Forest

🌳 Take your time on this short 1/3 mile loop at Devil’s Standtable in Shawnee National Forest . . . shady spots, big rocks, and caves make it worth exploring.
⚠️ Be careful on steep cliffs and slippery sandstone, stay on marked trails and watch for poison ivy and copperhead snakes.
📸 Look up at the striking “mushroom rock” and the towering sandstone bluffs shaped by wind and rain over millions of years.
🐦 Watch for nesting rock pigeons, bank swallows, and chipmunks. This bluff is a protected home for many creatures in Shawnee National Forest.

Pomona Natural Bridge is a peaceful and scenic spot in the Shawnee National Forest near Pomona, Illinois. Just a short walk leads to an incredible view.

🌉 The stone bridge stretches 90 feet and you can walk right across it
🥾 A short 0.3-mile loop with wide, flat rocks and a few big steps
📸 Great views from the top and underneath the arch
🌳 Surrounded by forest and shaded most of the way

A short, flat trail that delivers big views. Cross this bridge, follow the canyon walls, and you’ll end up at one of the prettiest waterfalls in Shawnee National Forest.

New to Panther Den? Here's your quick-start guide to one of southern Illinois' most scenic hikes:

🥾 The trailhead is on Panther Den Lane. Look for the small lot with a kiosk.
🗺️ Download a trail app. This Shawnee National Forest trail gets confusing at the junction.
🪨 The towering sandstone formations and tight crevasses are the highlight.
👣 Skip the loop and stick to the out-and-back hike. It's better marked and more fun.
👧 The 1.5-mile trail to the Den is perfect for kids who love climbing and exploring.
💦 Expect creek crossings. Waterproof boots help a lot.

One of the best hikes in the Shawnee. Family-friendly and worth it even when it is muddy.
