Elk & Bison Prairie - Land Between The Lakes The Elk & Bison Prairie offers a native grassland habitat common in Kentucky more than a century ago. Elk and bison roam free within this 700-acre enclosure.

Visitors travel in their enclosed vehicle via a 3.5-mile paved loop road. Automobile: $5 Per vehicle (3 entry cards $10, 5 entry cards $15)
Buses/Commercial Vans: $.50 Per passenger

Open Sunrise to Sunset, the best times to visit are 2 hours after sunrise and before sunset.

Update: All systems are operational!

The gate at the Elk & Bison Prairie - Land Between The Lakes is currently having connectivity issues and only accepting exact cash payments ($5 bill or five $1 bills). Passes and credit cards will not work.

1/15/24- The Elk and Bison Prairie is currently closed due to poor road conditions and the temperatures have the gate frozen shut. 🥶 Today is one of those days you wish you had a fur coat like the bison or elk, they are staying toasty out there. 🦬

2/3/2022, updated at 11am -- Due to inclement weather, Golden Pond Visitor Center, Planetarium, Elk & Bison Prairie, and Wranglers Campground will be closed on February 3, 2022. Please use extreme caution if visiting or traveling through the recreation area. Roads, including the Woodlands Trace National Scenic Byway, are not treated for ice.
