With warmer weather we have been able to enjoy hydrant testing as well as conduct Engine Operator and Water Supply Training. Today’s training consisted of supplying water to multiple hose lines and master streams. There was a simulated loss of water supply relying on tank water and prioritizing supply for specific hose lines. Crews also refreshed on drafting techniques. Regular hands-on training is critical to keeping skills fresh

Heating season is here ! Remember to prepare your chimney and fire place/woodstove to prevent an emergency - About 33% of Chimney Fires result in extension of fire beyond the chimney - Check out some helpful tips to ensure safety in your home to prevent fireplace or woodstove related emergencies

🔥 Have your chimney professionally inspected/cleaned annually
✅ Check your smoke and CO detectors
💧Regularly clean out ashes, wet down and dispose of safely
🚒 Call 911 if you suspect a chimney fire or building fire, your detectors activate, or you are concerned of another type of emergency
📞 Call the fire station with any non-emergent questions

Beautiful evening for a response with Boat 1. The moon was bright, the lake was glass, and the onboard heater kept the cabin warm. Thankfully the island resident was okay and didn’t require medical transport. A great opportunity to use our night navigation skills. We are lucky to have the right equipment for quick access to the lake even this late in the season

Today’s shift training was response to elevator emergencies. Though not a common occurance, rescues from elevators do happen in Gilford and there is a specific procedure and finesse to these situations to ensure safety for all and efficient extrication. This mornings simulation was the occupant stuck inside the elevator, unable to operate it with the car stuck between two floors. Personnel discussed & practiced emergency shut down/lock-out procedures to ensure safety, fire dept. override operation, special elevator keys and procedures to open the exterior and interior doors manually, and accessing/extricating the occupant. A great review for everyone. Thanks to the Community Church for allowing us to practice hands-on with their elevator
