A little Plein Air + Urban Sketchers throw down.

Last Thursday, a dozen artists gathered at Rosedale Gardens for a combined Plein Air + Urban Sketchers meetup. Painting, drawing, and sketching ensued among the plants and flowers. At the end, everyone laid out their work for a group “throw down” to see what they made.

Did you know that PAL has multiple artist groups that meet throughout the year? Our next Plein Air Group meet is tomorrow, Thursday the 20th, at Manchester State Park in Port Orchard, from 10-1. There are no lessons, just great fun and camaraderie. Everyone is welcome, beginners are encouraged.

Submissions are now open for Peninsula Art League’s 24th National Fine Art Show!

Artists from across the country are invited to apply for this annual juried exhibition, featuring jurors Jessica Wilks (Tacoma Art Museum) and Greg Robinson (Bainbridge Island Museum of Art). More than $8,500 in cash awards will be presented.

One of the many things we love about our member exhibitions is the opening reception. It’s a chance for artists to connect, celebrate their work with friends and family, and hear from the show’s juror.

Along with announcing the awards, the juror shares their unique perspective on art. Hearing what stood out to them in the winning pieces often leaves us looking at art a little differently.

Enjoy a few photos from our Summer Member Show, held at the beautiful Volunteer Vern Pavilion, and congratulations again to all of the award winners.
