On Sunday, July 5, 2026, at 2pm, there will be a program at the Gibbon Heritage Center celebrating the Center's 50th birthday. The time capsule placed in 1976 will also be opened at that time. The Gibbon Heritage Center will be open 2pm to 4pm that day. The Gibbon Heritage Center is located at 2nd and Court Streets in Gibbon.

Just like the local folks pictured in the accompanying photo did 110 years ago, we hope you are planning to cruise into Gibbon for Old Settlers Day on April 7, 2026. Activities begin at 1:00 pm when the Gibbon Heritage Center opens for tours, research, refreshments and celebration of Gibbon's 155th anniversary. The evening program begins at 7:00 pm with roll call of the descendants. The opening segment will be followed by an entertaining presentation by Paul Siebert entitled "Echoes of an Era". This musical program is sponsored by Humanities Nebraska. Come and celebrate 155 years, whether you are a descendant of a colonist or you call Gibbon home.

The members of the Soldiers Free Homestead Colony pictured in the accompanying photograph gathered on April 7, 1909 for Old Settlers Day. Whether you descend from one of them, have an interest in local history, or call Gibbon home, we look forward to seeing you on April 7, 2026 at the Gibbon Heritage Center located at Second and Court Streets. We will be open at 1:00 pm to show you around, answer questions, and celebrate the 155th anniversary of the founding of Gibbon. Join us at 7:00 pm for Roll Call followed by an entertaining historical program, "Echoes of an Era" presented by Paul Siebert, sponsored by Humanities Nebraska and the Gibbon Heritage Center Foundation.

Get on board for Old Settlers Day! When the Soldiers Free Homestead Colony members stepped off the train on April 7, 1871, they looked around and were surprised at what they saw. You will be too when you see what is new at the Gibbon Heritage Center. Stop in for Old Settlers Day on April 7, 2026 beginning at 1:00 pm for tours, research, refreshments and celebrating the founding of Gibbon.
