Re-enactors have been a large part of living history presentations and battles at or near Antietam since the Centennial in 1962. At many of the annual Illuminations some have camped on the fields amongst the luminaries. Judi Quelland took this image north of the Dunker Church. Judi will make some comments below and give some backstory on the image. There will be 2 re-enactor groups on the field this year...one Blue and one Gray.

The new Gettysburg movie is the first time that fighting in the streets of town has been recreated accurately in a film. It's even more meaningful that it was done on the exact ground where this brutal action took place.

October 10th, 2025 -- Looking down the street from the Jennie Wade Museum at Georgianna's house, there's a movie set being installed for the upcoming movie: Gettysburg 1863, directed by Bo Brinkman. Baltimore Pike, the main street through down- is closed down between Leever Street and Breckenridge Street. You can't see the street, says visitors, where did it go? It's covered for horses and carriages for this weekend's filming.

Forecast - Rain and clouds and temperatures in the 60s. Sunday evening, filming with a 80' rain tower. Should be amazing to see!

William Richard "Boots" McClellan, Sr. was born in 1902. His parents married in 1891. William was born in Denison, Iowa, and died in Idaho, but buried in Sumpter, Oregon.

What a tale he must have had during his lifetime to travel westward with the railroad.

One of the reasons why I left William for last is the following:
-- He married three times....and had children with each.

His 1st wife was Ella Mae Jones. They married in 1927.
His 2nd wife was Cleopha Paulina Bueche. They married in 1942.
His 3rd wife was Alice Ilene Reasy. They married in 1951.

Ella (1st) was born in 1905 and died in 1985.
Cleopha (2nd) was born in 1905 and died in 1973.
Alice (3rd) was born in 1927 and died in 2014.

Like previous posts about the children that may be living, little is known about them and hard to get information about. However, here are some pictures instead:

1st Wife Ella with the children: Sailor uniform with hat on.
They were married December 1927.

2nd wife Cleopha with their only child.

3rd wife, Alice, had two daughters with William. (no picture found)

During a stop at The American Civil War Museum — Appomattox back in April, it was amazing to once again see this officer's coat that belonged to the Irish immigrant and General Patrick Cleburne. It had been exposed to various elements in its private care after the war and the Museum in Richmond originally accepted it even though it was in poor condition with numerous moth holes. For that, it was stored away.

Most any museum would shy away from showing something in this condition but a transition in thought determined that the coat makes for an incredible physical link to a thought provoking and important figure from the war. It should be noted that this was not the coat he was wearing when he was killed at Franklin, Tennessee on November 30, 1864.

Now the cool portions of the pictures -

The last child of Jim Britton McClellan and Ala Mary Kenny that we haven't talked about is the ninth child that they had. The reason to skip around to him at the last is that there was research to be done.
