With the cold temperatures outside and heating systems working at full capacity, be sure your carbon monoxide detector is functioning. Also be sure your smoke detectors are also working.
Each detector has an end of life indication. Generally CO alarms have a life of 5 years with other smoke/CO combo units being a 10 year life. Make sure yours are up to date and working, it could save your life!

Today we remember SUNY Geneseo student-athletes Matthew Hutchinson and Kelsey Annese who were lost 10 years ago.
Kelsey and Hutch will always be remembered for their hard work, leadership, and dedication to their teammates.
Hutch was a firefighter/EMT for GFD, and we strive to embody his work ethic and dedication to others every day.

This afternoon at 2pm at the Wilson Ice Arena on the SUNY Geneseo Campus, our color guard will be at the Ice Knights game vs. Manhattanville. We invite all members of the community to join us as we

On Saturday, GFD went to Conesus Lake for the second part of our annual ice water rescue drill.

Returning members took the opportunity to sharpen skills that are often not called upon, while newer members used our drill as an opportunity to learn the basics of ice water rescue.

After the drill, members of the Geneseo Men's Hockey team, lead by team Captain and GFD member Alex Dameski, came to the firehouse. The players toured GFD equipment and facilities, learned about our mission, and deepened our long lasting connection.

This Morning at 8:15 the 911 Center received a call reporting a kayak overturned with a person in the water.

Geneseo Fire, Liv Co. EMS & Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Blue Heron Drive where a group of duck hunters reported a member of their party had overturned from his kayak and another hunter had gone to assist him in another kayak.

The victim was successfully brought to shore, treated for hypothermia and transported to Strong Hospital.

Firefighters using Boat 310 retrieved the overturned kayak and were back in service at 9:30 AM.

While we have found that cold or ice water rescues are infrequent, we pride ourselves on being properly equipped and trained for any circumstance.

I was asked about the 1954 GMC/Young tanker recently. The truck was constructed by Young Fire Apparatus in Lancaster NY. It had a 500 GPM front mount pump with a 1,000 gallon water tank. It was the first "tanker" operated by the department. Prior to this the only "out of village" truck was the Ford truck, now known as "Sudsy", which had a 500 GPM pump and 250 gallon water tank. With the addition of the GMC to the fleet ('41 Ford & '51 Mack), the department was much better equipped especially for fires outside of the village. The truck remained in service until the delivery of the 1971 Mack. The truck was then dismantled for a DPW truck and the fire body was placed in Highland Park as playground equipment for children.

We had a very successful postponed Turkey Party on November 25th! We were sorry we were not available to host the public on Saturday evening as scheduled. Many thanks to community volunteers and family of GFD members who moved the turkeys to the Geneseo Central School freezer on Saturday! We appreciate the GCS staff helping us during this crisis of postponement.
The community support last night and the business sponsors who contributed made this a very enjoyable and successful evening! THANK YOU.
