What a wonderful day! Slinky, the Mink was returned home. It’s incredible how resilient animals can be. A week ago he was hit by a car and today he’s right back in his den.

Well, that is a great way to start the day!! Graduated from liquids and the incubator. Slinky still needs a couple days, at least, of rest and recoup but I am hopeful.

Our newest intake coming from a fedex driver in Manchester. He was kind enough to stop and check this little one and meet us to get him help. Meet Slinky the Minky, adult male mink who was likely hit by a car.

He has some minor road rash and likely head trauma. Pain and anti-inflammatory meds and now we wait while he gets warmed up.

Good vibes will be needed.

Caring for wildlife requires specialized training. In fact to be a rehabber in Maine you are required to evidence a minimum of 100 hours of hands on training.

What does spring bring? Babies, babies and more BABIES!! 🐿️🦝🐇🦨🐾🍼

Please follow these rules if you find little critter in need!!!

1) ALWAYS wear gloves, 🧤some babies can carry disease that is dangerous without showing any symptoms.

2) CONTAIN safely, gently place the babies in a cardboard box or pet carrier 📦 with a blanket or towel. Keep them in a warm, quiet area away from people and pets.

3) DO NOT feed or water. ‼️This is sooo important!! Babies bodies can’t process the wrong food or tempature water and it can cause irreparable damage, resulting in death.
NOT FEEDING or offering WATER is the kindest thing you can do.

4) CALL US, ☎️call for help. It takes so much specialized training and specialized care to ensure baby wildlife has a chance. Let the experts give them that shot at a healthy life.

This time of year we see a lot of opossums in need. 🐾 The cold winters are brutal on their tails, toes and ears. Frostbite is a real threat when your whole body isn’t protected by fur.

Be kind, they are trying to survive.
Reach out, if you see a critter in need.
