🚌 SCHOOL IS BACK - PLEASE BE PATIENT & DRIVE SAFE! 🚌

As students head back to school today, we want to remind everyone to use extra caution while driving through our neighborhoods and around school zones.

During the first few days of school, please be patient with our school buses and drivers as they learn their new routes and schedules. Expect additional stops, delays, and traffic as everyone settles into the new school year.

Most importantly, STOP for school buses when their red lights are flashing and stop arm is extended. Our buses are carrying some of the most important members of our community, our kids!

🚸 Slow down in school zones and neighborhoods.
🚌 Give buses plenty of room and be patient.
🛑 Never pass a stopped school bus when required to stop.
👀 Watch closely for children crossing streets or entering/exiting buses.

Let’s start the school year safely and give our students, families, and bus drivers a little extra patience as everyone gets back into the routine!

Well, well, well… look who decided to show up for the first day of school! 😎

The Garden City Police Department would like to welcome back all of our students, teachers, staff, and parents for another school year!

We’re also excited to introduce Officer Stanley, our new Garden City High School School Resource Officer!

Officer Stanley is looking forward to making connections with our students, staff, and parents, being a familiar face around the school, and helping make this a safe, positive, and educational school year.

Let’s make it a great year, Garden City! Stay safe, be kind, and maybe leave the school bus driving to the professionals.

⚠️ PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH STANDING WATER

Following today’s heavy rain, there are areas of standing water on roadways throughout Garden City.

🚗 If you come across a flooded roadway, turn around and find another route. Do not attempt to drive through standing water, even if it appears shallow.

Water can be deeper than it looks, and road conditions underneath may be damaged or unsafe. Driving through standing water can also push water toward nearby homes and properties.

Please use caution, slow down, and give our crews room to work as they continue responding throughout the City.

With many Garden City residents currently without power, the City has several locations available for anyone who needs a place to cool off, charge their phone or other devices, and get out of the heat.

Remember to check on neighbors, family members, seniors, and others who may need assistance during the outage.

{Expired} TORNADO WARNING

The National Weather Service has issued a TORNADO WARNING for Wayne County, including Garden City.

🌪️ TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY.

➡️ Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
➡️ Stay away from windows.
➡️ If possible, put as many walls between you and the outside as possible.
➡️ Bring pets with you and protect your head and neck.
➡️ Do NOT go outside to look for the tornado.

📱 Keep your phone nearby and continue monitoring official weather alerts.

Please take this warning seriously and remain sheltered until the warning has expired or officials indicate the danger has passed.

🐾 FOUND DOG 🐾

A male pit bull was found in the area of Merriman and Brown. He was not wearing a collar or tags, and unfortunately, a microchip was not located.

This sweet boy is being transported to the Romulus Animal Shelter.

If you recognize him or know who his owner may be, please contact the Garden City Police Department or the Romulus Animal Shelter.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING (2nd ALERT THIS EVENING) - GARDEN CITY

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Garden City and portions of Wayne County until 1:00 AM tonight. Take Shelter Now.

Residents should move indoors and stay away from windows. If possible, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of your home or building.
💨 Damaging winds are possible
🧊 Large hail is possible
🌳 Downed trees and power lines may occur
⚡ Frequent lightning and heavy rainfall may accompany the storm

Do not approach downed power lines.

📱 Keep your phone charged, make sure emergency alerts are enabled, and continue to monitor the National Weather Service for updates.

This warning is in effect until 1:00 AM.
