πŸ’œ September is Hydrocephalus Awareness Month! πŸ’œ

***Texas public schools are required to observe Hydrocephalus Awareness Month as an opportunity to educate, raise awareness, and support understanding of this condition.***

Ever heard of hydrocephalus?

Hydrocephalus is a chronic brain condition caused by an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. There is currently no cure, and the primary treatment is brain surgery.

More than 1 million Americans live with hydrocephalus. For some children, the journey can mean undergoing more brain surgeries than birthdays.

Awareness matters.

πŸ’œ By learning more and sharing information, we can help others recognize the challenges faced by individuals and families living with hydrocephalus.

Enjoy a well deserved day of rest and relaxation with your loved ones.

Reminder: All GISD campuses and school will be closed tomorrow. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday!

πŸ“š SEPTEMBER IS SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH! 🐾

Every day matters! When students are in school, they have more opportunities to learn, grow, build connections, and reach their goals.

🎯 Attend today. Achieve tomorrow.

Missing just 1.5 days a month can add up to missing 10% of the school year. Let’s make every day count and give our Leopards every opportunity to succeed!

❀️ Be Here. Belong. Succeed.

The Gainesville ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is a group of dedicated individuals representing segments of the community, to provide advice to the district on coordinated school health programming and its impact on student health and learning. The SHAC assists the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district's health education instruction.

The SHAC will meet four times throughout the year: September 22, November 17, February 16, April 27. All meetings will be held at the administration building at 900 N. Grand from 5:00 - 6:00 pm.

SHACs provide an efficient, effective structure for recommending age-appropriate, sequential health education programs, and early intervention and prevention strategies that can easily be supported by local families and community stakeholders. Every independent school district is required by law to have a SHAC. The majority of members must be parents who are not employees of the GISD. All parents are invited to attend the SHAC meetings.
