🏡 A Beautiful New Chapter for Connie and Her Family! ✨
Since February, Connie, her three teenagers, and her precious grandbaby have been facing the harsh, exhausting reality of homelessness. Despite the unimaginable stress and uncertainty, Connie kept pushing forward every single day. She has been doing absolutely everything in her power to make ends meet, protect her kids, and simply survive. Her resilience has been nothing short of incredible.
But today, we finally get to share some long-awaited, heartwarming news.
Thanks to the amazing work and support of Family Promise, this family’s months of struggle have come to an end. Yesterday, Connie and her family officially moved into a safe, secure home! 🎉
No more wondering where they will sleep at night. No more surviving day-by-day. Instead, they get a fresh start, a locked door, and a stable foundation for the teenagers and the grandbaby to truly thrive.
It takes a village to lift each other up, and this is exactly why the mission of Family Promise is so life-changing.
Please join us in sending all the love and warm wishes to Connie and her family. Welcome home! ❤️🏠 If you’d like to donate to help the next family that comes along you can do so here - https://www.familypromisegvl.org/donate

As we continue to grow at Family Promise, we will be working with volunteers and the student population more often. We recently began to train 2 amazing premed students and today we took them to the Safety Net collaborative so they could experience all of our local systems, healthcare, social services working together. Today there was a presentation by McKinney -Vento who advocates for students K-12 experiencing homelessness.
When we got done, this was the text message I received from our volunteer and I just had to share it with you all because her experience was so impactful

“ I want to thank you for bringing me along today. This safety net collaboration truly opened my eyes about a lot of things.

I grew up in a very privileged city in Colorado, where I didn’t firsthand experience things like homelessness and poverty. Going to this safety net collaboration and hearing about the numbers of children that experienced homelessness honestly moved me.

I was unaware of the kinds of situations that lead to homelessness. I guess since I was never around it, I always thought it was poor usage of money. But now I see and understand that there are a plethora of things that could lead to homelessness and inadequate housing, which in turn heavily impacts emotional and physical wellbeing, preventing children from reaching their full potential.

I left that collaboration with a greater gratitude for the life I have and for school in general. I now not only understand the true definition of homelessness and its causes, but also feel deeply for everyone experiencing it. I am so glad that schools exist and these programs exist to give children a safe place for at least six hours and help them achieve amazing things. I was incredibly moved, and I hope that I can help alleviate such situations as much as I can throughout my life.” ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

WOW!!’ At Family Promise we will always move towards creating educational and informative volunteer experiences because that’s what actual community engagement looks like, and we will never solve the problems around homelessness and economic insecurity until we have the university of Florida and student population at the table. If you want to be involved as a volunteer at family promise email our director of community engagement Leigh Scott - [email protected]
