What a wonderful day for Funkstown! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the dedication and ribbon-cutting of Jerusalem Park, the newest addition to our town’s park system.

It was especially meaningful to see so many residents, community leaders, and friends come together to celebrate this beautiful new space and another investment in the future of Funkstown.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Jerusalem Park possible and to all who came out to support this special occasion. I look forward to seeing our community enjoy this park for many years to come!

Today, students are heading back to school, and we wish all of our students, educators, support staff, and administrators a wonderful and successful school year!

Some of you may remember the classic Staples commercial with parents shopping for school supplies to the tune of “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” As we begin this exciting time of year, let’s also make it a safe one.

Please take a little extra time on the roads, watch for students, and always stop for school buses when required. If you need a refresher on school bus safety and the rules of the road, information is available through Washington County Public Schools at wcpsmd.com.

🎉 You’re Invited to Celebrate the Grand Opening of Jerusalem Park! 🇺🇸

Join the Mayor and Town Council of Funkstown on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 3:30 PM for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of Jerusalem Park, located at 20 West Poplar Street.

🍧 FREE SNOW CONES!
Snow cones will be provided by Snowball Waterfalls LLC, courtesy of the Mayor & Council of Funkstown, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM.

Then keep the celebration going at the 5th Annual Funkstown Food Truck Festival beginning at 5:00 PM, followed by fireworks at dusk!

Bring the family and come celebrate an exciting new addition to the Funkstown community!

I was pleased to represent Funkstown at the dedication of the new Washington County Fest Haus during Augustoberfest’s traditional Keg Tapping Ceremony. It was especially meaningful to see the Town of Funkstown flag proudly displayed in the new pavilion at the Washington County Ag Center alongside flags representing communities throughout Washington County.

The festival is the Augustoberfest Charitable Foundation’s only annual fundraising event, providing scholarship support students participating in the Hagerstown-Wesel Sister City Exchange Program while also benefiting local nonprofits that enrich the lives of children and promote the arts throughout the community.

Congratulations to the Funkstown Post 211 American Legion Baseball Team on winning the 2026 Maryland State Championship! What a tremendous accomplishment and a proud moment for our community. Congratulations to the players, coaches, families, and everyone who made this success possible!

For the 11th time in program history and the first time since 2019, Funkstown Post 211 is the Maryland American Legion baseball state champion. See link below ⬇️

What a great weekend in Funkstown!

Kudos to Assistant Mayor John Phillips for once again organizing a successful re-enactment of the historic Battle of Funkstown. I had the pleasure of registering re-enactors on Friday and enjoyed meeting participants from across the Mid-Atlantic. It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout this year.

Saturday’s street battle brought Baltimore Street to life. Although heavy afternoon rain interrupted some of the festivities, I was especially impressed by a Maryland artillery group riding through the pouring rain with their cannon. Their dedication was remarkable. The evening concluded with great music and a beautiful fireworks display.

On Sunday, the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Company outdid itself with another outstanding all-you-can-eat breakfast.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and to those who worked behind the scenes to make the weekend such a success, especially Town Manager Brenda Haynes, Town Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Smith, Secretary Kelli Roser, and all of our firefighters, from the cooks to the paramedics. Your hard work and dedication continue to make Funkstown a wonderful community.

Attended my second Planning Committee meeting to learn more about planning and zoning. Thank you to David Harmon, Lisa Goddard, Narcissa Boyd, Angela Stewart, Charlie Evans, Lance Crampton, and Matt James for their service on this valuable committee. I also appreciate Terry Feiser, Zoning Administrator, and Councilman Barry Warrenfeltz, ex officio members, for their time and dedication.

Saddened to learn of the passing of Reatha Kline, wife of former Mayor Robert Kline. My sympathies to her family.
