Legalize Maine

Legalize Maine Legalize Maine is an organization devoted to legalizing marijuana in a way that will provide economic benefit to the maximum number of Maine citizens

The organization that wrote Question 1 "An Act to Legalize Marijuana" and helped pass the law on Nov. 8th 2016. Marijuana criminalization laws have failed miserably. They have caused great harm to the lives, careers and families of millions of honest Americans. It is time to end the prohibition on marijuana. Legalize Maine believes it is a Mainstream Idea to implement common sense solutions like r

egulating marijuana cultivation and sales, and putting an end to marijuana related arrests. Legalize Maine is an organization devoted to legalizing marijuana in a way that will provide economic benefit to the maximum number of Maine citizens in the form of jobs and economic development. Our efforts over the next few years will be focused upon two areas:

The Placing of a Citizens Initiative on the Ballot in 2016

Lobbying for Our Principles in Any Legislation That Comes Before the State Legislature

It is expected that legislation to legalize marijuana will be introduced in the 2015 Maine State Legislative Session. We expect portions of this bill to represent out of state corporate interests. We will use our experience and network of stakeholders to fight for common sense rules and regulations that represent our principles. It is likely that any proposed legislation will have a difficult time getting through the legislature. Governor LePage has indicated support only if the people vote through a citizens initiative. It is our goal to lay out the details of a regulatory structure that is fair and focuses on the people instead of large corporate interests that are trying to dominate the marijuana industry. These details will become the basis of the Citizen's Initiative in 2016. By including regulatory details in a citizen's initiative you eliminate the role of unelected bureacrats writing onerous rules geared to large corporate interests.
