Brandy Blanton for Alderman

Brandy Blanton for Alderman My running for office is only an extension of my love for my home in a more tangible way. I think my knowledge of the people is my best asset.

After living here 35 years, I’ve had the opportunity to intermingle with all demographics of this community – from fellow students, patrons from my time as a server, being a mom of five children who went to school here and most recently as a business owner with the responsibility of attending numerous events in the community. I also am not shy about speaking my mind.

** UPDATED INFORMATION IN COMMENTS**

Due to road conditions, the City of Franklin has decided to not operate residential trash and recycling services on Wednesday, January 17.

If road conditions allow, the City plans to service Wednesday customers on Thursday, January 18. Thursday customers will be picked up on Friday, January 19. Monday and Tuesday customers will be serviced on their next scheduled service day next week.

There will be no charge for extra bags to those customers we did not get to this week.

We will continue to evaluate road conditions on a day-to-day basis so stay tuned to our social channels and website.

This past Sunday evening, we closed the chapter on my campaign with my family hosting "Sunday Dinner" for my campaign team.

For the last 13 weeks, I have forgone my family's typical gathering on Sundays to meet with these 20+ people as we planned, strategized and linked arms to fight for my re-election. My dear friend and campaign treasurer, Julian Bibb III, dubbed them as my "Kitchen Cabinet".

It seemed only fitting that we tried to show our gratitude as a family by serving them. The entire three-course meal was prepared from scratch with love (sans the rolls - not enough time for homemade) and hosted at Half Way Market (thank you Kellye & Paul) because my house is too small!

Each Kitchen Cabinet member received a token of our gratitude in heart-felt words of thanks and a small gift with a Franklin theme. The surprise of the evening was being able to bestow my Bibbster an original Dan Klatt painting of Roper's K**b, his first preservation battle in our town.

I am still amazed that these folks stood beside me from start to finish. I really am not worthy, just blessed.

THANK YOU: Julian Bibb III, Julian Bibb IV, John Bibb, Jeff Moseley, Brian Beathard, Sam Whitson, Robert Blair, Mary Pearce, Angela Calhoun, Doris McMillan, Carrie Drury, Pam Lewis, Jackson Bacon, Joe Jensen, Chris Vernon, Dan Klatt, Jay Sheridan, Matt Brown, Marquis Gough, Ramon Cisneros, Stacey Watson, Christina Willow, and their spouses for sharing them and yourselves!

A little more than 24 hours ago, we closed an election for the history books! I am grateful for EVERYONE who participated in this very important election and am humbled by your support.

It takes all of us working together to create, sustain and protect this community that we love so much. It has taken thoughtful leadership and a citizenry who is invested in who we are and how we treat each other - that's what sets us apart, our people.

Personally, I want to thank my village, starting with my family who has sacrificed our sense of normalcy and ability to spend time together like we are accustomed, especially my husband, Mendall.

Then there is my work family, who also gave me grace to juggle the demands of running an election and the responsibilities of being the development director for a nonprofit who plays a pivotal role in my life.

My dream team, dubbed "Brandy's Kitchen Cabinet" was critical in running a first-class campaign from start to finish. However, Julian Bibb III, the ringmaster of it all was an amazing leader, not just for my campaign but all those we partnered with. I am blessed to be an honorary "Bibb".

Another important part of the equation were the folks who opened their homes to host events where we could engage residents and earn their support, both financially and with their vote. Then there's the poll workers, who if they weren't already friends, they are now. Bless you for committing to our community, despite the weather, the glances and the thumbs up!

And what would an election be without the voters - nothing. You all showed up large and confirmed what we already knew: the Franklin we know and love is worth fighting for.

My pledge to all of you is to continue to do my best to
"Keep Franklin the Best Hometown in America".

Kellye and Paul King of Halfway Market and Diner are dear friends and were gracious enough to share why they support my re-election. I'm grateful to them both for their long friendship and constant encouragement throughout this campaign. I would appreciate YOUR vote to continue serving our Franklin community!

Started out the day with a check presentation for Ellie G's Dreamworld from Tennessee Department of Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (DIDD), bringing us one step closer to making the vision of Franklin's first inclusive playground (named after my granddaughter) come to fruition! Then, on to the polls for a few hours where despite the first day of Fall Break and a holiday, we still had over 700 people show up! Keep spreading the word.
