Agriculture Education and Outreach improves agriculture literacy by developing programs increasing public, educator and student awareness about Kentucky agriculture. Agriculture education improves agriculture literacy by developing programs increasing consumer, educator and student awareness about agriculture. Farm Safety increases safety awareness and provides educational resources and training to ensure the safety of farmers and their families.

Today’s Leadership Workshops were a great opportunity for FFA members across the state to connect with how they came to wear the blue jacket and how they can impact others to make sure the next generation has opportunities to know and experience all that Kentucky agriculture has to offer! On July 10, one representative from each of Kentucky’s 171 districts will gather in Frankfort for a one-day professional development focused on collaboration, communication, and agriculture education leadership across the Commonwealth.

Kentucky school gardens, this is your official warning 😄 The School Garden Squash Challenge at the State Fair is ALMOST closed for nominations 🏆🚜 Time to plant, plan, and squash the competition!

This is your chance for students to:
🌿 Grow their own squash
👩‍🌾 Work as a team in the garden
🍽️ Create an original recipe using their school-grown squash
🎤 Head to the Kentucky State Fair cooking stage to demonstrate their dish LIVE!

Join Kentucky Farm Bureau and KDA: Ag Education and Outreach this July for hands-on professional development for teachers!

🌟 Featured Presenters: Bowling Green & Owensboro Workshops 🌟

• Bethany Mattingly, Division Director of Agriculture Education and Outreach, Kentucky Department of Agriculture — Former Louisville ag teacher with 14 years in agricultural education, including 12 years in the classroom where she built urban agriculture programs and student-run enterprises at Seneca High School. In her current role, she leads statewide initiatives such as Ag Education Week, working to expand access to agriculture education.

• Warren Beeler, Deputy Commissioner, Kentucky Department of Agriculture — Raised on a dairy farm in Grayson County, Warren has spent his career advancing Kentucky agriculture through leadership in livestock programs, agricultural policy, and youth development. He played a key role in establishing Kentucky Proud and has long been a statewide advocate for agricultural education, producer support, and strengthening the connection between agriculture and the classroom.

• Charlotte Holtzclaw, 4th Grade Science Teacher, Robert B. Turner Elementary (KDA ACE) — A 13-year educator from a farming family in Mercer County, Charlotte integrates agriculture into her science classroom through hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences. As Titan Farm & Ag Club Sponsor and Ag Education Week Coordinator, she helps students make real-world connections between science concepts and agriculture while building early interest in ag careers.

• Cara Rogers, Special Education Teacher, Washington County Schools (KDA ACE) — With 16 years of teaching experience across elementary and high school levels, Cara brings agriculture to life through enrichment courses, experiential learning, and district-wide ag events. Drawing on her background in agriculture and public service, she is passionate about making agriculture accessible to all learners through meaningful, hands-on instruction.
