The roll-off dumpster is now full, and the gate will remain locked. The City is pleased that many residents have taken advantage of this opportunity to clean up their properties and help improve our community.
Unfortunately, we continue to experience violations of the established rules. Today, additional tires were illegally dumped at the fence, and two trailer loads of tires had to be turned away by a City Council member. It is disappointing that some individuals have chosen to disregard the clearly communicated guidelines and instead place additional burdens on the City and its taxpayers.
Improper disposal of prohibited items incurs additional expenses for the City. In addition to the cost of the roll-off dumpster, the City will now incur disposal fees for the illegally dumped tires. Furthermore, the City will be required to pay an employee to monitor the gates from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the next two Saturdays to ensure compliance with the rules.
It is important to remember that the City was not obligated to provide this cleanup opportunity. This service was offered as a courtesy to residents to assist with property cleanup efforts before Code Enforcement activities begin. However, the City is required to follow specific regulations when offering these services. When residents violate those regulations, the City is also at risk of noncompliance.
We respectfully ask all residents to follow the established rules and be considerate of the community resources being provided. Continued disregard for these requirements may result in the City being unable to offer similar cleanup opportunities in the future.
Thank you to those residents who have followed the rules and helped make this program successful.
