There are a ton of special and fun activities happening around the end of the year. Our 1st graders had DINOmite time enjoying all of the Dino Day activities! (And our amazing group of 1st grade teachers had a lot of fun, too!)

This week, Mrs. Rusk's first grade class had two very special visitors! MVHS students, (Mr. Basketball) Luke Ertel and Owen Daugherty, gave up part of their morning before their school day started to talk with our 1st graders about working hard inside and outside of the classroom. The students enjoyed giving a friendly letter they wrote to Luke and Owen. It was a full circle moment for Owen who was a student at Fortville Elementary School and as an 8th grader he used to volunteer in Mrs. Rusk's classroom once a week for his National Junior Honor Society hours. ๐Ÿ€๐ŸŽ‰

We are so grateful for students who choose to give back and inspire the next generation. Thank you both for making a difference at FES this morning! ๐Ÿ’™

The past few years, our Student Council (led by Miss B) have worked together on a project to make blankets. Previously, we have donated the blankets to local nursing homes, but this year a parent had a contact with the IMPD that works in the Homeless Outreach Division. Lt. Steve Spears and Major Tabby McLemore came in to accept the blankets and to share with the kids about what they do. There was a wonderful question and answer time that helped many of the kids make the connection to how they were helping our (extended) community. We look forward to maintaining this connection and continuing to partner with them in the future!

On Friday our first graders got two special presentations. Mrs. Gale got to share about her experience staying on a ranch and doing a cattle drive. They are learning about ranches and cattle drives in their curriculum right now. They also got to hear from a group of our high schoolers about the Lunar New Year.
