Keller Lions Club gave a generous $30,000 donation supporting Keller ISD students!
This contribution will provide 30 graduating students entering the skilled trades with professional tool kits to help launch their careers and support their future success.

The K-Cal kids built a tiny home. Pretty impressive. Built well, and decorated beautifully.

Also worth keeping an eye on: the district’s transition to as the new cafeteria provider.
Also, as we mention at the April Board meeting, “The board approved Whitsons Culinary Group as the new provider.” It appears there is more than meets the eye here.
We’ve now heard concerns from 3 different cafeteria employees regarding the upcoming transition. It took us some time to put together their concerns regarding the district’s upcoming food service transition. Based on information currently being shared from staff to us, employees with fewer than 15 years in KISD would move to the new company, while only about 40 of roughly 230 kitchen employees would remain district employees.
Employees have raised concerns about:
• Loss of accrued leave days
• Changes to PTO and holiday pay
• Questions about insurance coverage
• Moving from TRS to a 401(k)-style plan
• Long-term job security
There are also concerns that experienced managers may leave for neighboring districts or retire early rather than go through another major transition.
The district will likely point to financial savings and operational efficiency, but many employees feel these changes could come at the cost of stability and benefits earned over years of service. Many staff members say they are still waiting for clearer answers as the transition approaches. Many of these people are beloved members of the community.

After complaining about SRO prices, Chris Coker recently was invited to meet with Fort Worth PD and Councilman Lauersdorf regarding SRO costs. In case you can’t click on the link, Charlie also invited beloved board member Chelsea Kelly, who of course showed up.
Once again, Click on the clearly labeled links below to see who else join this visit.
One thing that continues to be overlooked is that the state required districts to place an SRO on every campus, but did not fund the mandate.
Councilman Charlie Lauersdorf Post about it: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1ANQps7mBL/
Chelsea Kelly, post about her visit https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1B8te3jXJU/
Chris's Post about it:

Everyone wants safe schools. Most people support having SROs.
Our frustration comes when the school board complain about rising costs while remaining largely silent with state leaders about funding the mandates they continue to pass.
How many times do we need to see a photo of Nate Schatzline with Charles, John, Micah and Chris and that conversation is never brought up? Never a public call to action to their state lawmaker? Hey Nate or Gio, put forth a bill requiring funding for SROs. How hard is that to do? Call them out publicly to do it.

And finally… the natatorium saga continues.
Chris Coker recently took a group of “concerned dads” and business owners into the natatorium to personally inspect filters and rooftop units.
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BCSyyRgZt/
Which naturally raises the question, was this the same gang of dads that convinced him to draft that resignation Facebook post back in January after Bro brunch?
At some point, Keller ISD probably needs to decide whether the natatorium discussion is going to be handled through engineers and facilities experts or through unofficial field trips and poolside advisory committees.
Have a great summer, everybody.
