The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department entered the β€œfarming business” in 1995 when Chris Salomon and his daughter, Lynn, presented the Department with a very generous gift -- the family farm. Located on the north side of Fort Wayne in an area of rapid development, the 170-acre city park provides not only much needed green space, but a glimpse of life on the farm, as well. In keeping with t

he Salomons’ wishes, the park remains a working farm. When complete, the park will feature demonstration plots utilizing farming methods popular in the 1930s. Farm animals such as chickens, pigs, goats, mini Highland coos (cows), ducks, rabbits, a mini horse, and Valais black-nose sheep live on the farm as part of our nearly 50 farm animal menagerie. Heirloom vegetables and herbs are grown in the garden. We also have several sunflower fields that have been planted in succession with late summer/early autumn bloom time! Special events and programs such as the annual 2-day fall harvest festival, the summer Farmin’ Fun day camp, the Salomon farmers' market, and numerous workshops, classes, and programs provide opportunities for education as well as recreation and entertainment throughout the year. Need an event space? We have those, too! Our rental space options consist of the historic Old Barn, historic Homestead, the Wolf Family Center (aka Learning Center), the *New in 2024* North Garden, and the Covered Bridge near Till Road at the south of our property. Our rental events continue to grow in popularity and type of event from year-to-year! You are invited to visit the farm park any time, in accordance with the park rules. The city farm park is open daily from 6am-11pm and is free. Tell your friends and family! We look forward to welcoming you to the farm. Enjoy your visit(s)!

πŸ“£ The Farmers' Market kicks off tomorrow!! We're beyond excited to welcome you back Wednesday, June 3rd from 4 - 7 p.m. for another great season with an incredible line up of new and returning vendors! πŸ§‘β€πŸŒΎπŸ₯¬πŸ₯•πŸ―πŸ’πŸ₯–

Learn more about one of our new vendors below! Welcome, Woodville Market Gardens! Be sure to follow our page for additional πŸ’‘ vendor spotlights πŸ’‘ throughout the season!

Aimee and David's adventure started as a shared dream, tucked away on a quiet acre in Edon, Ohio. They love getting their hands dirty and are big believers in making the most of every inch, practicing intensive but sustainable farming to offer a huge variety of delicious and beautiful things. Our partnership is definitely a unique one! While Aimee is still happily working as a registered nurse at DuPont four days a week – a role she's cherished since 2020 – David is the full-time powerhouse on the farm. They are thrilled to be participating in the Salomon market, which offers a perfect opportunity to truly connect with their neighbors and contribute to the local food scene.

For Aimee, flowers aren't just pretty faces: they're a little piece of calm and a vivid splash of nature's beauty. They're beyond excited to share stunning, hand-picked floral arrangements, hoping to sprinkle a bit of joy and a touch of elegance into your homes and special events. And it’s not just about the blooms! Here at Woodville Market Gardens we also take immense pride in growing a bounty of super fresh, organic vegetables and incredibly crisp, healthy greens. You absolutely have to try their carrots – they're famously sweet and tender and bring back week after week just for another taste of that homegrown goodness!

In celebration of ride your bike to work day, who do you think can travel faster, an everyday bike rider or a bunny? It depends; for short commutes, it would be the bunny. Their average speed is between 25-45 mph. 🐰🚲

Did you know after Mother’s Day is typically considered the safest time to start planting for the spring and summer? It doesn’t actually have anything to do with our mothers (we still love them though!), it’s usually around this time that soil temperatures consistently stay above 50Β°F which makes it safe for those tender annuals and vegetables.
