Bring your recyclables to the Fort Rucker Recycling Center on and join the Fort Rucker DPW Environmental & Natural Resources as they host ‘Hunting for Recyclables’ Friday, April 22, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Peruse informational booths, take part in some fun and games, and speak with representatives from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management on the importance of keeping recyclables out of landfills. Earth Day T-shirts will be given out while supplies last!

The first confirmed positive detection of Chronic Wasting Disease in Alabama has occurred in a hunter-harvested deer from Lauderdale County. Lauderdale and Colbert counties are now designated a Chronic Wasting Disease Management Zone. (CMZ).

🔴 The area in Lauderdale County west of US Hwy 43 is designated a High Risk Zone (HRZ) for CWD; CWD testing is now MANDATORY FOR ALL DEER HARVESTS IN the HRZ. DEER HARVESTED IN THE HRZ MUST REMAIN AND BE DEPOSED OF WITHIN THE HRZ.

🟡 The remainder of Lauderdale County and the entirety of Colbert County is designated as a Buffer Zone. We encourage hunters to have their deer from the Buffer Zone tested for CWD. DEER HARVESTED WITHIN THE BUFFER ZONE must remain and be disposed of within the CMZ.

🗣 EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: there are NO DAILY OR SEASONAL BAG LIMITS or ANTLER RESTRICTIONS for white-tailed deer in Lauderdale and Colbert counties. This means that you can harvest as many deer as you'd like each day on private land, open-permit public land, and WMAs in Lauderdale and Colbert counties between now and February 10th using any legal archery and fi****ms equipment allowed at that WMA. Hunter's Choice will be allowed every day through February 10th with no bag limits or antler restrictions at:
Lauderdale WMA
Freedom Hills WMA
Riverton CHA
Seven-Mile Island WMA (ARCHERY ONLY!! KEY CAVE NOT INCLUDED IN CHANGES)

🚫🐿 Small game hunting is CLOSED on these WMAs for the remainder of the 2021-2022 deer season.

⚠️ These season and bag limit changes DO NOT APPLY to any other WMAs or any private or open-permit public lands outside of Lauderdale and Colbert counties.

HUNTERS: thank you for your continued efforts to and prevent the spread of the disease. Please, get out there and hunt and submit your deer heads for sampling at provided freezer drop-off locations or mobile check stations.

The first known, wild Eastern indigo snake was recently discovered at Conecuh National Forest in South Alabama. The Eastern indigo reintroduction project started in 2006, and the program was able to start releasing captive-raised indigos in 2010 with 17 adult snakes released into the Conecuh National Forest. The goal is to release a total of 300 snakes to improve the chances of establishing a viable population. The project team has released 170 snakes to date.
