These are the stories that compel us to act. These stories are the "why" -- why we set out to slay the Goliath of pollution special interests with a small but powerful hope and the belief that we as Floridians can accomplish this together.

As you know, we are still fighting back against the new law, HB 1205, and its killing blow to all-volunteer, purely grassroots campaigns. We weren't able to carry out our plan early this year to go statewide, in-person, motivating fellow Floridians with the call to action. So now, until the law is repealed, only big organizations, alliances of organizations that are committed and active (not just supportive), or big philanthropists -- can save Florida.

We are still in strategizing mode. If you have leads, please let us know (email [email protected]). It's possible but TBD whether or how we widen the net of protection to all of Florida's natural resources -- with an eye to the principle and basic expectation of good stewardship.

Now is the time to reach out, find out, and connect the dots of people and organizations who care.

Let's make 2026 something to remember like the third movie of an epic trilogy. The spirit of fierce stewardship will always make a come-back, and what it looks like next is up to all of us to create.

With anger, sadness, frustration, and disappointment, the Florida Right to Clean Water initiative has suspended signature gathering operations. With hope, determination, commitment, and resilience, we are reimagining, collaborating, and resetting for the 2028 ballot.

Central Florida:

Join us at Barry University School of Law on October 17th for OCFL Commissioner Nicole Wilson's Environmental Justice Symposium focusing on Heat, Hurricanes, and Health.

The event has been approved for 5.5 General Florida CLE credits!

This one-day symposium includes panels featuring local leaders and policy makers, non-profit organizations at the forefront of climate change mitigation, and a group of youth advocates for environmental justice, along with a number of guest speakers in an event that will both inform and inspire.

Curious how policies actually shape our response to climate challenges? At the Environmental Justice Symposium, you’ll hear directly from government leaders about the decisions that impact our communities every day — and what role you can play in influencing them. Don’t miss your chance to be in the room for this conversation.

This event is open to the public, and we look forward to seeing you at Barry Law on Friday, October 17th.

There are different types of petitions. Some are online and help to solidify a growing position on a matter, elevating the voice into political awareness and discourse, and perhaps influencing politicians toward desired actions.

Below is a such a petition, to Repeal Sections 18 & 28 of Florida Senate Bill 180: Protect Home Rule. Check it out.

(In contrast, our petition to qualify the Right to Clean and Healthy Waters to the ballot, requiring about a million wet signatures on printed out forms, could give a diggety-damn about what politicians think, as a constitutional amendment tells them how to do their jobs, in service to the People.)

But still, do what you can with what's available:

"Oh, the new law is just about protecting Floridians from fraud." That's what they sold (without any evidence to include grassroots campaigns), but the real effects of HB 1205 are insidious, killing any chance for real Floridians to determine our own futures.

Yes, any campaign needs money to sustain operations, but the new demands are unreasonable. The price to verify petitions used to be under a dollar, usually 10-25 cents each, costing $100k - 250k. Now, as you can see, it's at least 10-15 times as much to validate a signature. For no discernible reason.

-- Well, except to further oppress the people's right to self-determine.

We need to collect at least 1M signatures, btw, so you can see the math of this. (*Insert here the long list of so many other unreasonable requirements placed on citizen initiatives ensuring we no longer have this power.)

*NOTE* There are good people working in the Supervisor of Elections offices, it's not their fault. Debbie Osborne is great. It's HB 1205, continuing its rippling harm into the future of Florida, where only millionaires and their favorite politicians have control.
