🌴 A Message from Rebecca Link — Looking Ahead to Swearing-In

November 4, 2025 will be remembered as a historic day for Fort Myers Beach — and for all of Lee County. The people spoke loudly and clearly, and their message could not have been stronger: protect our island, our character, and our community voice.

This was a grassroots movement from start to finish — neighbors talking to neighbors, residents standing up for the future they believe in. I’m deeply honored to have earned your trust, and I carry your message forward with humility and determination.

When I’m sworn in on Monday, November 17, I will do so knowing that 63% of voters demanded change — not just in policy, but in the way our local government listens and responds.

That means keeping development in scale with our island, honoring our Comprehensive Plan, and restoring transparency and trust in Town Hall. But it also means healing and working together again — because Fort Myers Beach is one community, and we’ll move forward best when we do it side by side.

Thank you for believing that your voice matters — because it does. I’ll make sure it continues to be heard. 💙

We did it — TOGETHER. 💙

Yesterday’s victory wasn’t about politics — it was about people. The residents of Fort Myers Beach made it clear: we love our island just the way it is. We can rebuild stronger after Hurricane Ian without losing the character, charm, and small-town community that make this place home.

I’m so proud and grateful for every single person who walked, called, donated, waved a sign, and believed in our message. This was a true grassroots effort — neighbor to neighbor, heart to heart.

Now, we turn our focus to what’s next: saving Fort Myers Beach Elementary School. The school district owns the property, and many of us fear they plan to sell it rather than rebuild. That school isn’t just a building — it’s part of our island’s story, our children’s future, and our sense of community.

📍 There’s a critical meeting today at 1:00 PM at St. Leo’s Church in Bonita Springs. If you can attend, please do. Your presence and your voice matter. Let’s show that Fort Myers Beach stands together — for our kids, our history, and our home. Please take a moment to read the full story I just posted.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Let’s keep working together for the future of this island we love. 💙

YOUR Fort Myers Beach Town Council

Friends and neighbors,

Fort Myers Beach has been through so much since Hurricane Ian — but what’s never been washed away is our spirit and our love for this island.

Lately, too many of our neighbors feel shut out — their questions ignored, their voices unheard, and even blocked from online programs where town issues are discussed. I know our town leaders care deeply about this community, but when residents can’t engage or ask questions freely, everyone loses the chance to get the full picture. We all deserve open communication and mutual
respect.

I’m not part of any recall group or lawsuit. I’m simply a resident who cares — someone who wants honesty, openness, and fairness back in Town Hall. Together, we can rebuild trust, protect our neighborhoods, and keep Fort Myers Beach the caring, close-knit community we all fell in love with.

Thank you all for your kindness, your courage, and your belief that our voices still matter.

I’d be honored to earn your vote tomorrow.

🌴 Fort Myers Beach: The Recall Is About Accountability — Not Fear

Tomorrow morning at 10:30, a judge will decide if Councilor John King will remain on the November 4th recall ballot. Karen Woodson will stay on the ballot — and regardless of what happens tomorrow, the people of Fort Myers Beach deserve to understand why this recall matters.

This recall isn’t about stopping recovery or progress. It’s about restoring trust, following our Comprehensive Plan, and protecting the small-town character of Fort Myers Beach.

🏗️ What’s Really at Stake

Three councilors voted to approve massive high-rise developments — some up to 17 stories — that don’t match the vision laid out in our town’s Comprehensive Plan.

That plan clearly says redevelopment should create “a traditional neighborhood with walkable connections to schools, recreation, and shopping” — not towering luxury condos that block views, overwhelm traffic, and change the feel of our island forever.

One example: the Red Coconut RV Park property was sold after Hurricane Ian for $52 million. The approved project includes multiple 15- and 17-story condo towers with 4,000-square-foot units. This isn’t rebuilding smarter — it’s rewriting who gets to call Fort Myers Beach home.

💸 About Those “Recovery” Scare Tactics

You may have seen messages claiming:

“The recall threatens recovery.”
“It’ll hurt property values and shrink the tax base.”
“It’s a reckless attack on our future.”

Let’s clear the air:

These projects take years — often 10 or more — before they’re finished, and they drain our infrastructure long before they ever add tax revenue.

The property already pays taxes on its $52 million value — so the idea that we need high-rises to stay afloat is simply false.

Our real recovery depends on smart rebuilding that respects residents, preserves our character, and strengthens the community — not on selling our skyline to the highest bidder.

💬 The Bottom Line

This recall is about accountability, honesty, and keeping our town’s future in the hands of its residents.

We can rebuild, recover, and protect what makes Fort Myers Beach special — without sacrificing our identity to oversized development.

If you agree, vote YES on the recall and let's take our island back.

I want to take a quick moment to say how grateful I am for all the incredible support and encouragement throughout this campaign. It truly means a lot to me to see so many people care about our community and its future.

I’ve heard some concerns about the placement of signs, and I just want to be clear — I believe strongly in running a respectful and fair campaign. Every sign with my name on it has been placed with permission, and that’s a standard I’ll continue to uphold

I know everyone who’s been helping us is doing so out of passion and a shared desire to make a difference, and I truly appreciate that. I’ll be making sure everything stays above board and in good spirit moving forward.

Thank you all for keeping our campaign positive, respectful, and focused on what really matters — our community.
