Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland introduced the Fairness for Service members and their Families Act of 2025. It became law on Dec. 12, 2025. The legislation requires the VA to review and adjust maximum coverage for SGLI every five years based on inflation. This ensures benefits keep pace with economic changes, maintaining a relevant financial safety net for families of Service members.
If you’d like additional information please contact the SOS Coordinator at (253)967-3672.

A Gold Star Never Fades.

For Americans, stars hold a special meaning. The fifty stars on our nation’s flag represent the states that make it up—and all of us who contribute to this great nation.

During wartime, homes displayed a blue star for each Family member serving in the military. A gold star signified a Family member who had fallen in that service.
Just like the fifty white stars on the US flag, the gold stars of surviving Families shine brightly, in wartime and in peace. They have sacrificed—and continue to sacrifice—for our country. We owe them honor we can never fully show.

This Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day, may we all remember those whose gold stars will forever shine brightly. How will you observe this special day?
