A state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility, the Fort Lee Military Entrance Processing Station, located at 2011 Mahone Avenue, Fort Lee, VA, opened its doors in November 2004. Previously known as the Richmond, VA, MEPS, it was relocated from the Federal Building at 400 North 8th Street in Richmond, where it occupied the 6th and a portion of the 7th floor. The Fort Lee MEPS is one of a network of 65

MEPS located nationwide and in Puerto Rico. A separate Department of Defense (DoD) agency, USMEPCOM is comprised of two geographical sectors and staffed with personnel from all military services. The mission of USMEPCOM and the Fort Lee MEPS is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services, based on DoD-approved peacetime and mobilization standards. Three primary areas are considered in determining an applicant's qualifications for enlistment:

aptitude for military service
physical qualification
background evaluation screening
