Forty community members from the Pinewood Reservoir/Pole Hill neighborhoods participated in an evacuation exercise this morning. The event was organized by Dr. Hodges, Camille, and the amazing team from the Larimer County Office of Emergency Management.

My thanks to Loveland Fire Rescue Authority for the use of their training ground as the community rally point. Public Safety Agencies and other groups provided additional preparedness information for those who participated at the training ground.

Kudos and appreciation for everyone who gave up a portion of their Saturday night to partner with us in community preparedness!!

This weekend, I joined communities across Larimer County to honor our fallen heroes—including attending the ceremony at the Veterans Plaza of Northern Colorado and the dedication of the Sgt. John “Jack” Thurman Memorial Highway on West Hwy 34.

Finding the right words today can be tough. "Happy Memorial Day" doesn't fit the solemnity of honoring those who gave their lives for our freedom. But today also brings the joy of summer, camping, and family time.

They gave up their tomorrows so we could enjoy today. So, if I see you out enjoying our beautiful county this afternoon, I’ll skip the standard greeting and leave you with this: Have a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

This program lasts several months and requires an incredible amount of dedication from the participants and their families to complete, and they absolutely crushed it!!

If it feels like I've posted about fires a lot lately, you'd be correct. We still have a week left in April and we've been responding to a fire a week for the past month.

Today, a fire started just west of a subdivision in Fort Collins. The 3 rail fence in my pics are the backyard of a home - that should give you an idea how close this fire was. Teamwork, preparation, and lots of practice kept this one at 8-9 acres. Seems small, but the winds made it tense for a little while.

Lots of partners on this one but a big thanks to Poudre Fire Authority!

Four bus loads of veterans took flight today for Washington DC as part of the annual High Plains Honor Flight. Many of them have never seen the memorials honoring their service, and the stories they bring back are moving. It was an honor to be there to support them and to see them off. Thank you, Veterans, for the freedoms we enjoy! Safe travels!!

Yesterday, a former Loveland Police officer was sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting a teen.

In October 2023, Loveland PD received a report of an assault by one of their officers. LPD immediately contacted the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and asked our office to investigate the case to avoid any conflict of interest.

LCSO investigators worked day and night to gather evidence, conduct interviews, and put together a strong case that quickly resulted in the suspect's arrest. Their investigation revealed violations of state law, as well as federal crimes. With the support of the FBI, the suspect was charged in federal court, convicted, and sentenced to 17 years in prison. This was a tough case on a lot of levels, and I'm grateful to the team who worked hard to stop a predator.

It goes without saying - I'm disgusted by this offender who disgraced the badge. He's had his day in court, and there's no reason to speak his name or give him any more attention. Instead, I'll leave you with this, the cornerstone in this case and all of our work:

Victims deserve our focus, our dedication, and our support. It doesn't matter who you are, if you hurt someone in our community, we will do everything in our power to pursue justice.

DENVER - Today, a federal judge in Denver, Colorado, sentenced Dylan Miller, 30, a former Loveland, Colorado Police Department (LPD) officer, to 17 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor while he was on duty.
