Strengthening Bilateral Geospatial Capabilities: IGM & USAWHC Workshop 🌎🗺️

The Chilean Army's Instituto Geográfico Militar (IGM) and U.S. Army Western Hemisphere Command (USAWHC) have officially launched their Bilateral Geospatial Workshop. This initiative builds directly on commitments established during the 20th Bilateral Staff Talks (RBEM) between the U.S. Army and the Chilean Army. Running through September 3, the workshop enhances bilateral interoperability, technical exchange, and the tactical/operational application of geospatial intelligence.

Focus areas include:
📍 Operational & Tactical Geospatial Integration
📍 MDMP & Terrain Analysis via IPB
📍 CHLAR & 512th Capabilities and RFI Standardization

Through professional exchange and technical interoperability, both armies continue to enhance readiness and modern geospatial decision-making.

During the latest week of August 2026, instructors and students from the Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA) 2-26 Course participated in practical leadership training at the Gore Frost course. The activity was designed to strengthen students’ leadership capabilities through practical exercises and teamwork. This training is essential for military personnel who advise commanders and lead their units. Through experiences like this, Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation develops leaders prepared to meet the challenges of their professional responsibilities.

Sniper candidates with 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, put their skills to the test during a designated marksman r***e qualification at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Engaging targets from 300 to 800 meters with the M110A1 Squad Designated Marksman R***e (SDMR), these Soldiers sharp-tuned their lethality and long-range accuracy to ensure our formations remain ready to win in any environment.

Instructors from the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation Noncommissioned Officer Academy (NCOA) began administrative in-processing for new students of the Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA) 2-26 Course.

This process marks the formal beginning of the course and allows students to complete the necessary administrative requirements before beginning their academic and professional development. Through this process, instructors guide students and establish the conditions necessary for successful course completion. SEA 2-26 reflects WHINSEC’s commitment to developing professional leaders throughout the Western Hemisphere.

A principios del mes de Agosto de 2026, instructores de la Academia de Suboficiales (NCOA) de WHINSEC iniciaron las medidas administrativas con los nuevos estudiantes del Curso para Asesores Alistados de Mayor Jerarquía (SEA) 2-26. The obstacle breach is the most dangerous task on the modern battlefield. The Sandhills Project is changing the math.

Historically, combat engineers face a 50% to 70% casualty rate when breaching defended obstacle belts. The Sandhills Project takes Soldiers out of the danger zone through human-machine teaming.

During a full mission profile at Range 63 on Fort Bragg, Soldiers from the 20th Engineer Brigade demonstrated the future of maneuver support:

🚛 Semi-autonomous tactical vehicles advanced to the breach under drone swarm cover.

🎯 Counter-UAS turrets identified and defeated incoming FPV threats in real time.

💥 Robotic line charges successfully cleared the lane—all without putting troops in direct contact.

Autonomous systems and robotic breaching mean higher tempo for ground commanders and more Soldiers coming home.

After completing a grueling culminating ruck march at Fort Polk, LA, the Soldiers of the 3rd Mobile Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division officially earned their Expert Infantryman, Expert Soldier, or Expert Field Medical Badges.

Each E3B badge validates a Soldier's absolute lethality and ability to execute critical tasks to standard under extreme pressure.

Over four grueling days at Fort Bliss, Texas (Aug. 21-24), competitors were pushed to their limits.
