The runoff elections are officially over and wow… the results were truly mind blowing. These races showed just how important voter education, turnout, and access to working polling locations really are… especially during runoff elections where participation is historically low.
On the Democratic side, congratulations to Dexter McCoy for Fort Bend County Judge on winning the County Judge race. Many of the other races came down to nail-biting margins that kept everyone watching until the very end. As a previous candidate myself, I know firsthand that the work does not stop after an election. I still make it a priority to support other candidates, stay involved, and continue showing up for the community because real service goes beyond being on the ballot.
The choices made in these runoff elections determine who will appear on the general election ballot, which makes every vote even more important. To the candidates who did not move forward, my advice is simple: keep showing up. If your intention for running was truly about serving the community, continue being present, continue doing the work, and continue building relationships beyond election season.
No matter the outcome, I want to congratulate every candidate who stepped up to serve, every volunteer who gave their time, and every voter who participated in the process. Elections may end, but the work in our communities must continue.
Now it’s time to move forward, stay engaged, and keep educating our communities on why every election…especially runoffs…matters.
