Today, we remember and honor the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering determination of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

On D-Day, thousands of brave men faced unimaginable odds in the fight for freedom. Their actions changed the course of history and secured liberties that generations continue to enjoy today.

As we remember the heroes of the Greatest Generation, we reflect on their selfless service and the ultimate sacrifices made in defense of freedom and democracy.

We will never forget their courage. We will never forget their sacrifice.

We would like to CONGRATULATE Addison Bobbitt and Hillary Head on their high school graduations! These young ladies are greatly loved by our late brother, James Bobbitt and our entire Fire Family. While he is with us in spirit, James’ earthly journey ended in December of 2024 after a year-long battle with Esophageal Cancer. Last night his brothers showed up in his place.

Congratulations girls! We are proud of you, and know that Bobbitt is too!

On Monday’s you get to meet your Flower Mound Firefighters. This week our “Member Monday” post introduces Local 3649 Member Chris Rios. Chris began his Fire Service career in Flower Mound 6 years ago at the age of 21 following his service in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was initially drawn to the fire service because of its brotherhood which closely mirrors that of the military. Chris spent the majority of his career thus far assigned to Central Fire Station before transferring to Station 6 - “The Rail Yard” last year. There, he has continued to expand his knowledge as a Firefighter, learning more about vehicle extrication operations and mentoring younger Firefighters around him. Chris has served as a member of Flower Mound’s Honor Guard for the last 4 years, where honoring the fallen continually reminds him of the purpose behind this profession. In his free time, Chris enjoys exploring different countries with his wife and kids, going on hikes, running, boxing, teaching his oldest daughter how to defend herself, and hoping for a Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl!

Chris is a Firefighter assigned to A-Shift Engine 506 out of Fire House 6 in Canyon Falls. If you are out west, be sure you say hello if you run into him and his crew!

On Monday’s you get to meet your Flower Mound Firefighters. This week our “Member Monday” post features Local 3649 Member Will Holden. Will fell in love with the Fire Service at a young age while watching his dad serve as a volunteer firefighter in the Argyle community. Will started in Flower Mound over 6 years ago when he was 19 years old. Will has developed an interest and passion in Truck work and technical rescue, and is regularly training with his crew and bettering those around him. Will has also served as a SWAT medic in Flower Mound for the last 2 years. In his free time, Will finds himself embracing his creative side designing artwork and graphics; some of which can be seen on the sides of Flower Mound apparatus and on T-Shirts. Will loves being outside whether it be fishing, hunting, wake surfing, or traveling around the country. He is also the “cool uncle” to his 5 month old niece.

Will is a Firefighter assigned to C-Shift Truck 501 out of Fire House 1 on Broadway Ave. Be sure you say hello if you run into him and his crew!

Let’s talk about “masking up”…

👨‍🚒 Putting a mask on your face - sounds easy, right? For a firefighter, it’s not that simple and seconds count. Being able to mask up quickly and effectively is critical for both us and victims. Our mask and our SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) are what allow us to breathe inside of a structure filled with smoke, or other hazardous gasses and toxins. Those bottles we wear on our back are filled with breathing air and pressurized to 4500 psi, allowing us significant time inside a structure to locate trapped victims, fight fire and get to work!

⏰ Firefighters must be able to precisely don their face piece, ensure a good seal around their face and do it in a specific order with their other PPE (helmet, hood, gloves, etc). Local 3649 members are held to a standard of being able to mask up and go “on air” in 30 seconds or less. We are proud that the majority of our members take it upon themselves to maintain a higher standard, with many of their mask up times being sub-15 seconds and a select few studs will do it in sub-10 seconds.

🔥 What’s the difference in just a few seconds? Life. Conditions inside a structure fire can change in a matter of seconds, and so can the sustainability and expectancy of any victims inside. The seconds it takes for a firefighter to mask up matter in these situations. Our members understand the expectation of them being able to save a life that would be otherwise lost, and they take pride in rising above the minimum standards and shaving off seconds when seconds are the difference between life and death!
