Important safety tips for riding e-scooters and e-bikes in post below:

Greetings, Flossmoor! It's and as we move into warmer weather, let's review the state laws and safety reminders regarding electric bikes & scooters.

E-SCOOTERS
Low-speed electric scooters travel no faster than 10 MPH. You must be age 18+ to operate an e-scooter in Illinois. You can ride on sidewalks (except in downtown Flossmoor per a local ordinance), bike paths and roads with posted speed limits under 35 MPH.

E-BIKES
E-bikes are not permitted for use on sidewalks in Illinois. There are no age restrictions for Class 1 & 2 e-bikes, but you must be age 16+ to operate a Class 3 e-bike (motor assists only when you pedal and stops at 28 MPH).

Whether you ride an e-scooter, e-bike or traditional pedal bike or push scooter, remember to:
• Follow the Rules of the Road.
• Wear a helmet and other safety gear.
• Check your brakes before riding
• Assume that cars and trucks don’t see you; always maintain awareness by putting away your phone & headphones.
• Use lights, reflectors & bright clothes at night.
• Never ride when under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Stay safe, Flossmoor

New flashing crosswalk devices being installed in Flossmoor; see details below

New in Flossmoor! A Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) has been installed near Parker Junior High School and Leavitt Park at School Street & Douglas. This traffic-control device uses flashing yellow lights to warn motorists that pedestrians / cyclists are waiting to use the crosswalk. Walkers and cyclists simply push a button to activate the light. Look for additional Flossmoor RRFBs being installed soon at: Berry & Flossmoor Road; Brassie & Flossmoor Road; Braeburn & Flossmoor Road; and Vardon & Western Ave. (Western location is pending an IDOT permit).

The beacons have been possible in part through a ComEd Powering Through a Safe Community grant. Travel safely, Flossmoor!
