Homes for Youth, Inc.

Homes for Youth, Inc. Concerned citizens united to provide stable, safe, and appropriate housing with positive role models to homeless youth in Henderson County.

Homes for Youth provides homes, help and hope for Henderson County youth who have lost their homes. We provide a home for up to five girls in the foster care system and Crossnore provides the supervision, licensing and other services to the foster parents and youth in the home. Our primary purpose is to address the foster parent shortage in Henderson County by providing a foster family with a home

s that accommodates youth in care. Due to the foster parent shortage, youth in care are often placed in other counties. Our model helps Henderson County youth who are placed in foster care stay in Henderson County.

CarePortal Update
H4Y is continuing to recruit organizations to join our “Care Sharing” network for children and families. Many children come into foster care because of neglect. Neglect is often related to a lack of resources. If our community can connect the resource requirement with someone who can provide that resource, often foster care can be avoided, which in turn reduces the need for foster homes. A system for making those connections is provided by an organization called CarePortal. If your church is interested in being part of this ministry, please contact Dave Lambert at [email protected]. You can explore vetted, urgent needs of children and families across the nation. View a map of live requests here.

Bridging Families Program Update

We currently have four wonderful foster parents chomping at the bit to be of service! While we don’t currently have any children in the homes, we may have a sibling set of 5 placed at the Overlook house soon. I think the children will love the house and Simba (their dog).

Open House

Our second home on Kanuga Road will be hosting an open house on Wednesday, July 9th, from 4-6 PM. Come see our second home and meet the new foster parents, Don and Leah. Parking at the house is limited, so we will be shuttling from the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2101 Kanuga Rd, Hendersonville, parking lot.

Cleanup Day at the second H4Y house
On April 20th, volunteers from Grace Lutheran Church did a major clean up of our second house. The work included a deep cleaning of the upstairs of the house and also the gardens around the house. A lot of scrubbing, weeding, mulching, and caring for the children in our community went into a great start for getting our home ready for foster children. Many thanks for the wonderful support that Grace Lutheran has given us for this project and throughout the years.

Bridging Families Update

Crossnore’s Bridging Families program has their first success in our H4Y house. A sibling group of three children now living in our first H4Y house will be reunited with their father in the coming month. Reunification is always the number one goal of foster care. In order to build on that success Crossnore and Homes For Youth are partnering to provide a second bridging families home in Henderson County. To that end, renovation has begun on our second H4Y Bridging Families foster home. In order to house the maximum number of Foster Children we need to have at least a four bedroom home. To create that fourth bedroom for our second house we are reconfiguring the first floor layout and adding a bathroom. Our general contractor, Brian Orzolek of Greenway Construction has begun the demolition and plumbing design. We plan to be ready for children by the start of the school year.

Dear Friends,

With the your help, we have made much progress in fulfilling our mission through a home we purchased 7 years ago. Because of an offer of a generous matching grant of up to $150,000, we have an opportunity to jump start the purchase of a second home. We are asking for your support in helping us match this wonderful grant offer.

It is a tragic situation when hard-to-place children are taken away from their parents by the county or the courts for their protection. It is especially difficult for a sibling group when they may be placed in a different home, a different county, and different school system as well. Our current home is partnering with a new Crossnore Communities for Children program, Bridging Families. The goal is to:
Provide trained and licensed professional Foster Parents who will dedicate time to the children without having full time jobs.
Keep hard-to-place children, like sibling groups that include teens, together as a family.
Provide counseling and support for birth parents so that they can learn to properly care for their children and get the families back together.

When we combine finding a home for our foster children with Crossnore’s mission of uniting children with birth parents, we form a very impactful program.

The purchase of a property large enough to provide a home for a sibling group of 5 children would greatly impact the lives of many children by increasing the capacity of Bridging Families. This is a tall order in today’s housing market. We plan to combine the funds we receive, the grant money, and a modest loan to purchase and renovate a suitable property. Crossnore could then expand Bridging Families in Henderson County by recruiting, training, licensing and supporting a second pair of professional foster parents in the new home.

Please consider being a part of this vision and donate to the Homes For Youth second house fund. You can do this in two ways. Send a check to “Homes For Youth Inc.” and in the memo write “matching fund”. Mail the check to PO Box 1581, Flat Rock, North Carolina 28731. Or go to https://www.homesforyouth.org/donate and make your donation online.

The Autobell debit cards are $20 each and never expire. Homes for Youth will receive $10 for each card you buy, and you receive the full $20 value when the card is redeemed at any Autobell Car Wash!
