Welcome to the first Where We Work Wednesday for June. Today we’re in Huntingburg, located in Dubois County. Huntingburg was platted by Colonel Jacob Geiger in who purchased over 1900 acres and became one of the city's first permanent settlers. Geiger Street in the city is named for him. Huntingburg is noted as being the only city with that name in the world.

Three major movies have been filed in the city, A League of Their Own, Soul of the Game and Hard Rain. Huntingburg is home to historic League Stadium, the home of the Dubois County Bombers-a collegiate baseball league team. The stadium has also been the home of the semi-pro team the Dubois County Dragons.

Indiana 15 has worked with the City of Huntingburg on water, wastewater and storm water projects over the years, including the current wastewater project. Other projects have included the Stellar project, that included the creation of Market Street Park and the revitalization of 4th Street, and the North Side Park project.
To stay up to date with news from the city, check out the city’s website, or the page, City of Huntingburg.
We’re down to the last dozen stops on our regional tour. Stop by next week to see where we travel to next!

Welcome to the last Where we Work Wednesday for May. Today we’re in Paoli, the county seat of Orange County.

Paoli was platted in 1816, and it its early years was a noted Quaker town that played a role in the Underground Railroad. The town is still home to a historic Quaker meeting house and cemetery. Notable Paoli residents include Margaret Hamilton, a software engineer who helped develop flight software for NASA’s Apollo program, and Ken Trinkle, a professional baseball pitcher who played for the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Indiana 15 has worked with Paoli on the numerous water projects over the years, including the most recent project that rehabilitated two water tanks-the million gallon tank on Virginia Avenue, and the 417,000 gallon tank northwest of town, and replaced meters in town. Other projects have included a comprehensive plan, stormwater improvements, and the clearance of the old fire station and construction of the new station.

Check out the town’s page Town of Paoli and website https://paoli.in.gov/ for all the latest information!

Welcome to the next Where we Work Wednesday. With all the rain the area has received, we’ve floated down the river and landed in Rockport, the county seat of Spencer County.

Lots in what is now known as Rockport were first sold in 1818, and the town was named for the large outcropping of rocks along the Ohio River. On that large outcropping is the Mathias Sharp House, an 1860s era home that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Rockport is also noted as being the southernmost city in the state of Indiana!

Notable people who have Rockport as a hometown include Thomas Pitcher, a Union Civil War general, and Kate Milner Rabb, a journalist and author.

Indiana 15 has worked with Rockport on the Downtown Revitalization study, 5-year Parks and Recreation Master Plan, historic preservation of the former Rockport Auto Parts building that now houses a restaurant, a comprehensive plan, and have provided labor standards for their current wastewater treatment plant project. Indiana 15 will also be working with the city on their upcoming Owner Occupied Rehabilitation grant application.

Check out the town’s page The City of Rockport and website for all the latest information!

Welcome to the next Where we Work Wednesday for May. Today’s stop takes us to English, the county seat of Crawford County.
English was originally called Hartford when it was platted. It was renamed English for William Hayden English, a politician of the time.
In 1893, the county seat of relocated from Leavenworth to English. Over the years, English suffered extensive flooding, and in 1990, the decision to move the town to higher ground was made.
The town is the birthplace of Lee Roberson, founder of Tennessee Temple University; Jerry Sturm, professional football player; and Frederick Terman, a professor who is credited as being the father of Silicon Valley.
Indiana 15 has worked with English on a Broadband Plan, several water projects, updating the town’s code books, and the relocation of the town.
Check out the town’s page Town of English for all the latest information!

Welcome to the first Where we Work Wednesday for the month of May. We’re halfway through the 6 counties, 6 cities and 21 towns that Indiana 15 serves, and today we’re in Perry County.
Perry County was named for War of 1812 hero Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry. The county was organized in 1814 and was the last county in Indiana to be created before the Territory of Indiana applied to Congress to become a state. The county has had four county seats over the years, Troy, Rome, Cannelton and finally the current county seat of Tell City.
Indiana 15 has worked with the Perry County on planning grants for the Perry County Museum, a historic preservation grant for the Rome Courthouse, and numerous projects with the Perry County Port Authority.
The county has a website, https://perrycounty.in.gov/
