Man 22 Suicide Awareness Run (Man22SAR) is an annual run created by Enrique "Rgr Rick" Murillo (Through Tragedy Comes Light), in 2016 in honor of one of his friend, Barry Baker, a combat veteran who tragically fell victim to suicide. The run is supported by multiple non-profit organizations that help raise awareness for suicide prevention. There's no need to register and there's no fees for partic
ipants or spectators. We have walkers/runners of all kinds. Men, women, children, active duty military, retired military, LEO's, first responders, dogs, strollers, wagons, bicycles...etc. The run consists of, wearing body armor or a tactical vest, both optional. Worn on the front side of the vest are the names of the veterans or first responders. After the opening ceremony, we run (or walk) 2.22 miles followed by doing 22 pushups in groups. The number 22 represents the number of veterans who commit suicide per day. The number is now reduced to 20 per day, however, in keeping with tradition, we will continue to do 22 until the number is zero. In the past 5 years, many supporters have donated food and water for the participants to increase public awareness of this event. The All Veterans Parachute Team jumps with the American Flag and our "22-A-Day" flag. Many Gold Star families will be in attendance. We will have many organizations there to help provide resources for suicide awareness and prevention. Along the 2.22 route of the run we will display photos of heroic men and valiant women who have lost their battle with their demons. Following the completion of the first runner, we will sound off with their names as we continue to honor and remember them.
