☀️ Summer Heat Safety Reminder ☀️
We’re excited that summer is here! With temperatures expected to reach the 90s this week, the Farmington Hills Police Department would like to remind everyone to take extra precautions during periods of extreme heat.
🌡️ Stay Safe in the Heat
Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, and light-colored clothing.
Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day (typically 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.).
Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
Learn the signs of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
🐾 Protect Your Pets
Always provide fresh water and access to shade.
Walk pets during the cooler morning or evening hours.
Avoid hot pavement, which can burn paw pads. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.
Watch for signs of overheating, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse.
🚗 Never Leave Children or Pets in a Vehicle
A vehicle’s interior temperature can rise dangerously fast—even when the windows are cracked and even when outdoor temperatures don’t seem extreme. On a 90-degree day, the temperature inside a parked vehicle can exceed 120 degrees within minutes.
👶 Children are especially vulnerable because their bodies heat up much faster than adults. Leaving a child unattended in a vehicle can quickly lead to heat stroke, permanent injury, or death.
🐶 Pets are equally at risk. Dogs and cats cannot cool themselves as efficiently as humans and can suffer fatal heat-related emergencies in a very short amount of time.
Remember: Look Before You Lock. Check your back seat every time you exit your vehicle, and if you see a child or animal left alone in a hot car, call 911 immediately.
Let’s all do our part to keep our families, neighbors, and pets safe this summer. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and enjoy the season responsibly! ☀️💧🐾

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to participate in a car and bike show at a church in our community. One of the highlights was the “Blessing of the Bikes,” a special time of prayer for those who ride motorcycles every day.
To everyone who rides: stay safe, stay alert, and enjoy the journey. Wishing you many miles of safe travels ahead.
