Since our submissions have been made public I would like to share why I submitted the choices I did.
1. Northside: we are merging 3 schools, we are working with the architects to incorporate pieces of each of the 3 prior schools. This is my #1 choice.
2. Selby Elementary. We have only 1 school in Fargo named after a female. I feel it is important to honor and showcase incredible female leaders. She did a lot of great things for Fargo, she is local so a natural choice.
3. Clint Hill Elementary, his bravery, service to our country and a ND native also is important to honor. As a veteran myself honor those who serve is important.
4. Charlie Kirk Elementary. I think it would be wonderful to honor Charlie in this way. However we as a board have recieved a lot of feedback on this name is and i feel that it is too polarized at this time. I did move this name forward due to the of number of submissions supporting it.
5. Horace Mann: this was the #1 submission and why I also moved it forward. My only reservation is how will the kids coming from Roosevelt and Madison feel. They will have lost their own schools identity and felt it was important to have something fresh. For me to consider this name further I need to hear from the kids. We have asked for input from the principals and will hear that at upcoming meetings.

We will be meeting Wednesday at our regular board meeting where we will use a forced matrix. In that process the natural front runners will come forward and we will narrow the list to 5 names.

The long range plan covers all of the buildings in our district, community members please sign up to share your input.

Fargo Public Schools wants to hear from you! We are conducting a research project to learn what our community thinks about a number of important issues for our school district, including our Long-Range Facilities Plan. FPS has hired an independent research firm, Creative Entourage Research, to gather input, and a representative from that firm will lead input sessions with various community stakeholders. From the input sessions, questions will be developed for a phone and electronic survey of our larger community. Survey results will be presented to the Fargo Board of Education in January to assist them in decision-making for a potential bond referendum to fund the Long-Range Facilities Plan.

A total of 20 current parents of FPS students are needed to participate in an input session on Thursday, October 3 at 6 p.m. at the District Office PD Room, located at 700 7th Street South in Fargo. If more parents volunteer than the session can accommodate, a randomized selection process will occur. Participants must live within the Fargo Public Schools attendance boundary.

To volunteer for this input session, please complete this form: https://forms.office.com/r/t2EUMyZcnK

The form will close on Wednesday, September 18 at 7 p.m. All volunteers will be contacted after the form’s closure.

Listening to our community is a high priority for the future of our schools; please volunteer to participate in this important effort! Contact Director of Facilities James Hand at [email protected] with any questions.
