Dozens of Fallbrook residents gathered along Mission Avenue this week to honor Martín Lucas, a landscaper and father of four who was killed in a March 16 shooting.

Friends, neighbors and community members attended the candlelight vigil, offering support to Lucas’ family and sharing memories of his work and dedication to his children.

“I know nothing is gonna bring back my dad, but I just want justice for my dad,” his daughter said. “My dad was everything to me and my brothers. I’m really, really thankful for each and every one of you guys for being here with us today.”

Organizers said the vigil was intended to show support for Lucas’ family and bring the community together in the aftermath of the shooting.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on crash that left two people dead in Sunday.

The collision was reported just after 5:00 p.m. on Cole Grade Road near Fruitvale Road. According to CHP, a purple Nissan Frontier was traveling northbound on Cole Grade Road as a gray Honda Accord was traveling southbound on the same roadway. “As the two vehicles approached one another, the Nissan Frontier veered to the left, crossing over the double yellow lines and into the southbound lane,” the agency said. “The Nissan subsequently collided head-on with the Honda Accord in the southbound lane.”

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Honda and his 75-year-old female passenger were transported to a local hospital with major injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, the right-front passenger of the Honda succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Officials say it is not yet known if alcohol or drugs contributed to the cause of the crash. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information or video footage of the collision is asked to contact the CHP Oceanside Area Office at (760) 643-3400.
