Out with the old… In with the new! 💡🚒

Another successful lighting upgrade by Marion Upfitter & Detail LLC.

We removed the outdated 120-volt scene light and installed a new 12-volt DC FRC Radiant Eco LED Scene Light. The upgrade included running a new fused 12-volt power circuit, removing the old wiring, and ensuring the new light is properly protected and ready for years of reliable service.

Water Tank Level Gauge Repair Completed

A customer reported that the water tank level gauge would go completely blank when the tank reached approximately 3/4 full. After troubleshooting, we verified the concern and traced the issue to a failed ground in the control module, along with a corroded tank level probe.

Our repair included:

* Diagnosing and repairing the failed ground in the control module
* Replacing the corroded tank level probe
* Testing the complete system to verify accurate water level indication throughout the entire tank

The gauge is now operating correctly and providing reliable tank level readings.

🚒🔧 Another Fire Apparatus Back in the Shop for Diagnostics!

Today we diagnosed an auxiliary generator issue on one of our customer’s fire engines. During testing, we found the fuel pump had failed and the fuel supply line was clogged, preventing proper fuel delivery to the generator.

A new fuel pump was installed, the clogged fuel line was cleared, and proper fuel delivery was restored. While the generator is still experiencing additional issues, we’ve eliminated the fuel system as the cause and can continue diagnosing the next step.

Not every repair is visible from the outside. This is the inside of a Kussmaul charging system that came in with a failed circuit board. Based on the damage and timing, we believe the failure was likely caused by a recent electrical storm or power surge.

After diagnosing the issue, we were able to replace the damaged board and get the charging system back up and running, saving the department from having to replace the entire unit.

Whether it’s emergency lighting, radios, charging systems, or electrical troubleshooting, we’re committed to finding the problem and providing a cost-effective solution whenever possible.

🚒 Kingwood Fire Department – Tanker 5 Update

Spent the day at Kingwood Fire Department getting the Firecom intercom system settings finalized and tested. We also installed a new 20-amp Kussmaul Auto Eject, ensuring reliable shoreline power connection and automatic disconnect when the apparatus responds.

Additional work included removing unwanted equipment and miscellaneous items from Tanker 5 to clean up and streamline the apparatus.

A special thank you to Chief 5 and Deputy Chief 5 for assisting with testing the intercom system and helping us verify proper operation during a road test. It’s always great working with departments that take the time to ensure everything is functioning exactly as intended.

The few days I spent working at Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department, I had the opportunity to see firsthand the dedication of their members. While I was there, I was able to catch one response and get this video of the crew pulling out.

Kingwood Fire Department – Firecom Hybrid Intercom Installation

Another successful installation completed by Marion Upfitter & Detail LLC.

We recently installed a Firecom Hybrid Headset Intercom System in Kingwood Fire Department’s pumper/tanker. This installation included mounting the intercom control unit, headset locations, cab communication system, and routing all wiring in protective loom for a clean, professional appearance. The system allows firefighters to communicate clearly while responding, reducing cab noise and improving crew safety.

A key feature of this system is the addition of two wireless front-seat headsets, allowing the engineers/operators to leave the cab while remaining connected to the intercom system. This provides seamless communication between personnel inside and outside the apparatus during operations, pump work, and scene activities.

As part of the installation, we also removed abandoned and unnecessary wiring from previous equipment installations, secured existing wiring throughout the cab, and cleaned up cable routing to improve reliability, organization, and overall appearance. All wiring was loomed, secured, and professionally routed to provide a factory-style installation and long-term durability.

The headset mounting locations were placed for easy access while keeping the cab organized and mission ready.
