On Memorial Day, Americans remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives defending our freedoms. So many of the freedoms we enjoy every day are often taken for granted — the freedom to govern ourselves, to vote, to bear arms, to travel, to practice our faith, and to raise our children according to our values.

Today serves as a reminder that freedom has never been free. It never will be. It was purchased by the men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

We should always remember and honor their sacrifices.

Thank you to everyone who got out and voted today!

The final count appears to be House 1,696 / Dunn 641. If anything changes, I will update everyone as soon as I receive the information.

I also want to thank Jeff Dunn for the way he treated me throughout this primary election. We attended multiple events together and even worked together, always treating each other with respect and acting like nothing had changed. That’s the way it’s supposed to be, and I truly appreciate it.

Tomorrow is Election Day.

When I think about election days, I think back to my time working at the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Tate would always carry everyone working to eat at David’s Catfish for dinner as a thank you for the hard work that went into making sure elections ran smoothly. So tomorrow, if you see someone from the Sheriff’s Office, be sure to thank them for the work they are putting in so all of us have the opportunity to vote.

After that, we would all meet back up at the courthouse waiting on results from the different polling locations to come in. It was always interesting because one thing I learned is that the silent majority often shows up and determines the outcome. You never really know what’s going to happen until every vote is counted.

Tomorrow, if you’re voting in the Republican Primary, I would be honored to have your vote and ask that you mark “Brian Hamilton House” for Monroe County Sheriff on your ballot.

I’d also like to say thank you for all of the phone calls, text messages, Facebook messages, and encouraging words from everyone who has reached out or sent word to me. The support, prayers, and encouragement have meant more than you know.

There seems to be some confusion about the Special Election being held in August. It’s still important to get out and vote on Tuesday because the August Special Election will not affect our local government offices.

Most people who know me personally know I’ve never been a fan of politics. In fact, I’ve said for years I’d never get involved. Working for different agencies, I’ve seen firsthand how politics can bring out the worst in people—good people being lied about, their character attacked, and others treated differently simply because they chose to run or even consider running for office.

I don’t believe that’s what our system was meant to be. But somewhere along the way, it feels like that’s what it’s become. Everything seems so divided.

That said, spending time going door to door across Monroe County has given me a different perspective. The overwhelming majority of people I meet are kind, respectful, and willing to have real conversations—regardless of where they stand politically. It’s a reminder that our communities are better than what we often see portrayed.

That’s why it’s disappointing to come home and see on Facebook that one of Sheriff Boatwright’s campaign signs was stolen off County Road 1.

No matter your views or who you support, that’s not right. It is also illegal. Campaign signs represent someone’s time, effort, and personal investment. Just like anyone else, they have a right to put themselves out there. Our system only works when everyone has a fair and equal opportunity to be heard—that’s what keeps it accountable.

If you don’t support someone, don’t vote for them. If you support someone, vote for them. It really is that simple.

May 4th is the deadline to register if you want to vote in the May 19th primary election.

But being registered is only the first step—you’ve got to make time to actually show up and vote.

In 2024, Monroe County had 16,190 registered voters, yet only about 4,725 people—roughly 29%—cast a ballot. That means nearly 70% of eligible voters didn’t participate.

When you don’t vote, you’re choosing not to have a voice in decisions that affect your community. Don’t let others decide your future for you.

Edmond Burke is attributed with saying “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”. Now I am not implying that anyone is evil, but I hear a lot of complaints about the way things are done in government and the way society has changed for the worse. Our election process is your chance to do something about it.

We’re fortunate to live in a country where we have the freedom to choose our leaders—many people around the world don’t have that opportunity. Take advantage of it. Do your homework, know your options, and vote for the candidates and issues that best reflect your values and the direction you believe our government should take.

We had a busy week, and I want to thank everyone who worked hard to make these events a success.

A special thank you to my wife. She’s been right by my side every step of the way—balancing a full-time job, raising our kids, and keeping me on track. We’ve been married nearly 18 years, and we’ve been blessed with two great kids… especially when they aren’t acting like their mother.

My family is one of the reasons I’m running for sheriff. Like so many of you, I want to provide for them, create opportunities for them, and most importantly, make sure they’re safe.

That’s what this campaign is about—Christian values, strong families, and safer communities.

If elected, I will work every day to protect our community and I do my part to make it a place where families can thrive.

Today, I was back out going door to door, and a man I stopped to talk with asked me a question that stayed with me the rest of the day: “What do you believe about God?”

It really wasn’t just the question—or even my answer—but what it reminded me of.

With this being such an important week for Christians, a time when we reflect on Jesus and all He has done for us, I felt led to use this platform to share something more meaningful than politics.

The message is simple, but powerful. Jesus, the Son of God, came to this earth and lived a perfect life, He faced the same temptations and struggles we do. Though He was without sin, He took our place on the cross and suffered what we deserve—because of His love for us, despite our imperfections and failures. He became the perfect sacrifice. He was laid in a tomb, and three days later, He rose again.

That simple question reminded me that no matter what we’re pursuing in life, as Christians we are all called to share the good news of Jesus Christ and to be faithful in the purpose God has given us.
