In May 2025, the *Chicago Sun-Times* published a summer reading list that included 10 books that didn't exist. The titles, summaries, and recommendations were generated by AI and made it all the way into print without being properly verified. ([Chicago Sun-Times][1])

Predictably, the headlines blamed AI.

I don't.

AI didn't decide to publish the article.

AI didn't skip the fact-checking.

AI didn't approve the final proof.

People did.

Every new technology—from spreadsheets to email to AI—requires new processes and new controls. The organizations that succeed aren't the ones that ban technology. They're the ones that build governance around it.

At HVCC, we see AI the same way we see any other business tool:

* Trust, but verify.
* Require human accountability.
* Document your process.
* Never confuse speed with accuracy.

AI can draft.

AI can brainstorm.

AI can summarize.

But accountability still belongs to people.

Technology doesn't replace leadership.

It makes leadership even more important.

**The lesson wasn't that AI failed. The lesson was that governance did.**

People often ask why we chose the phrase "Where Mission Meets Management."

The answer is simple.

Every successful organization has a mission.

But even the strongest mission requires thoughtful leadership, effective communication, sound governance, and practical ex*****on.

Mission inspires.

Management delivers.

The best organizations do both.

That's where HVCC works.

Every organization has a story. So do we.

Every organization has a beginning.

Ours started in 1995, during the early days of the internet.

Back then, we helped local businesses establish their first online presence. Websites were new. Technology was changing quickly. Organizations needed someone who could help them navigate unfamiliar territory.

Over the years, the work evolved.

Technology consulting became strategic communications.

Strategic communications grew into public affairs.

Public affairs expanded into governance, policy development, organizational advisory, and leadership strategy.

The tools changed.

The mission never did.

For more than thirty years, HVCC has helped organizations solve problems, navigate change, and move forward with confidence.

Today, that experience comes together under one name:

HVCC Strategic Advisory Group

Where Mission Meets Management.

We're honored to continue serving organizations that believe strong leadership, clear communication, and thoughtful strategy make all the difference.

The story continues.

They struggle when communication breaks down, leadership loses direction, governance becomes unclear, or change outpaces planning.

Meet the Founder

Hi, I'm Jim Castelize III, founder of HVCC Strategic Advisory Group.

I started what would eventually become HVCC in 1995, helping local businesses establish an online presence during the early days of the internet.

Over the past thirty years, that work has grown far beyond technology.

I've had the privilege of advising businesses, membership organizations, nonprofits, municipalities, political campaigns, and community leaders on everything from strategic communications and governance to policy development, operational strategy, and organizational leadership.

One thing I've learned along the way is this:

Organizations rarely struggle because they lack passion.

They struggle because communication breaks down, leadership loses direction, governance becomes unclear, or change outpaces planning.

Helping organizations navigate those moments has become my life's work.

That's why I created HVCC Strategic Advisory Group—to bring together three decades of experience under one mission:

Where Mission Meets Management.

When I'm not working with clients, you'll probably find me writing, serving my community, or developing practical solutions for organizations that want to make a lasting impact.

Thanks for following along. I'm excited to share insights, ideas, and lessons learned from more than three decades of helping organizations move forward.

— Jim
