This training was no joke!!! I learned so much and I’m excited to put my knowledge to work for our Rockwood kids!

At the June 16 meeting, Board Director Dr. Amy Wassman was recognized for completing her Missouri School Boards’ Association (MSBA) new member training. This certification involves 18.5 hours both online and in person. Sessions included student achievement, school law and finance, Board policy, relations and operations, goal setting, strategic planning, advocacy and communications.

Missouri law requires all school board members to receive 18.5 hours of training within their first 12 months of service. The MSBA program fulfills this requirement and provides a foundation for becoming an effective Board member. Congratulations, Amy, and thank you for your continued service to the Rockwood School District!

This evening, the Eureka High School class of 2026 will take a significant step into the next phase of their lives as they walk across the stage. I am delighted to participate in all four Rockwood graduations; however, tonight's event holds a special significance for me. I have the privilege of conferring diplomas on behalf of the Board of Education, which is an honor in itself. Moreover, doing so on the 20th anniversary of my own graduation from EHS is particularly meaningful. Two decades have passed in the blink of an eye, yet so much life has happened since then. I attribute my growth into the person I am today to every teacher, coach, and mentor at Eureka High School. Thank you.

Marquette High hosted an outstanding Special Olympics event, uniting students of varied abilities from several Rockwood schools and neighboring district schools. The event encompassed various competitions like relay races, jumps, bowling, basketball, and more. Further entertainment included Duo therapy dogs, face painting, prizes, and lunch provided for athletes, buddies, and staff. Marquette High Rockwood School District

DID YOU KNOW? SB971 would allow students to transfer between districts where space is available. When a student leaves a resident district, the state funding attached to that student leaves as well. However, fixed operational costs remain. Enrollment losses are typically spread across grade levels, making staffing adjustments difficult. As a result, districts may be forced to reduce programs rather than personnel, limiting opportunities for students who remain.

For Rockwood, if the district accepted a transfer student from outside the district, under the proposed legislation, Rockwood would receive approximately $6,900 per student at current funding levels. The cost to educate a student in Rockwood is currently $14,500. Who makes up the difference? Rockwood taxpayers would make up the difference.

Additionally, as the bill stands, receiving districts would need to provide transportation for students transferring in (from somewhere within its boundaries). Due to our continued driver shortage, there are students who live just more than a mile from their school and don’t receive transportation at this time. But we would be obligated to provide it for students transferring into Rockwood.

🚨🚨🚨This one is for ALL parents, not just Rockwood. 🚨🚨🚨

Missouri ranks 49th nationally for the share of education funding from state resources. 🤯

Missouri has historically been poor for funding education. Promised money and actual money provided rarely aligns. But it’s getting WORSE. And kid will be the ones to pay for these shortcomings.

I cannot stress enough to pay attention to what’s happening at the state level. Districts have been under funded for decades, and now Missouri is projecting a 1 BILLION dollar cut to funding for the next year. This equates to hundreds of dollars less PER student in funding.

Why does Missouri keep telling public education do more with less? It’s not possible to keep up.

This is not ok. This is not what our students deserve. Please pay attention. Please start asking questions of our state representatives and leaders. Do it for our kids.

She has been an invaluable mentor to me, and her leadership has had a lasting impact on our community. Although I will strive to follow in her footsteps, I recognize that her legacy is unique. I pledge to work diligently to ensure Rockwood remains a district of choice, renowned for its commitment to education and the well-being of its students.
